I have a 66 Coronet w a 440 w an Edelbrock Performer RPM , 750 Holley DP, MSD dist, 9.7 compression ratio , 727 with a 2600 stall converter and 3.55s.. what is a good cam choice.. no power brakes so vacuum really not an issue. Im looking to improve over what is in the mill now … dyno sheet info below. Any opinions? Thanks in advance!!

Get some heads on it.

I would do some better flowing heads before I changed the cam. Maybe 1.6 rockers to boot.

You have a strong street engine with lots of torque for those 3.55 gears. Heads may be enough. If not after doing some better flowing heads maybe add 8-10 degrees to the cam and you will shift the power band up higher.

Edit: That should move that Coronet pretty nicely and welcome to the forum!

Looks like an excellent combo for a driver right now. Car should break into the 12s in the 1/4 most likely.
Save your money and enjoy.

What are the current heads and what’s been done to them?

How much more power are you looking for?

If its enough of a change to require a big step up in cam, that would likely want to be accompanied by more stall.

For reference, a set of RPM heads and a rowdier cam will get you about 500hp with a 10:1 440.

The package you have now seems pretty solid and balanced, at least on paper.

So with that, the problem becomes making a substantial step change in power will likely require changing a few things.

A couple questions:

1. Do you have track data? If so, share it. It’s worth while to make sure the car runs as the Dyno info suggests it should.

2. The car should be a tire shredder now at any speed below 30 mph in 1st gear. Is it?

2. What exactly is the goal of the change? If you’re looking for a “feel” of more hp, be aware, you cannot feel a 20 horsepower increase. Going up one “cam size” will be about 20hp.

If “feel” is what you’re looking for on the street, consider more gear and/or converter.
