HI,
Now that its all back together .. NOt starting... I've double check Plug wiring, distributor firing order, it has spark. a couple of back fires thru the carb. I think I did flood it putting gas in to the carb via cup into vents.. I have the plugs out drying it out..I did smell gas when I pulled a couple of plugs
If I (I'm afraid of this part) put the cam gear in 180* out?? Is there an easy fix :praying:with out removing the front end again?? like just moving the distributor 180*?? to fix this Please.....
What would I look for in the valve train for TDC ?? exhaust valve just starting to open????

There is no such thing as the cam being “180 out”.

However, you can certainly put the distributor in 180 out.

Pull out #1 plug, put your finger down to the plug hole and bump the engine over.
When you feel a big rush of air come out of the hole, you’re on the compression stroke.
Look at where the timing mark on the damper is. You’re shooting for it to end up about 10-25* btdc.
With the timing mark in that position, pull the dist cap off…….the rotor should be pointing to a little before the #1 terminal.

If it’s a little before #6, pull dist, turn 180* and reinstall.
Adjust the dist so rotor is a little before #1.

If you install the gears with the dots at 6(top)/12(bottom)….as they would be when you lined them up dot-to-dot……..where are they if you rotate the crank 360*?

HI,
That's what I'm thinking if I rotate the crank one more time and re drop the distributor in I should be Back to the proper TDC..??? Duh....Yeah .. the crank turns twice to one of the cam.. so one more turn should put it right??

If you had the 2 dots pointing at each other you are fine. Your dist is probably 180° out.

To pull the bolt, lift the dist, turn shaft 180, drop it back in can be done under 60 seconds.

Just pull your dist up and turn it 180°. When it's in and timed, your vac advance should be pointing straight at your passenger inner fender well.
