Classic Cars and Cell Phones Don't Mix Well

I think I recall from past threads on the subject that Haggerty works differently in Canada than it does in the states.
As a long-time Hagerty customer, I have had chance to have a claim with them in the past and it could not have
gone any smoother.
They were very polite and helpful. I had my choice of where to take the car (in fact, they took my suggestion on that)
and they did not quibble with the repair shop over the charges.
All in all, I can't imagine a more expedited or easy situation.

I've not had a claim with Hagerty, but I have a buddy in the middle of one now and his experience is the same as @moparedtn . They took the shop's quote and cut the check. Now, if the body shop would just do their part...

This is encouraging. I had excellent claims experience with State Farm 20 years ago when my daughter was going through a wild spell, and had multiple claims, ending the process when she finally totaled the car. In each case, I got a single quote from a State Farm approved shop, no need for competitive bids. I was able to avoid a premium increase by removing my daughter from coverage. She finished college by riding the bus.

Hopefully State Farm's merger with Hagerty would lead to similar experience if I was ever in a claims situation.

My folks had a similar experience with State Farm almost 50 years ago when my brother and I got our licenses at 16. We're a year apart, and we each got in a minor fender bender within 6 months of getting our licenses. We were both excluded by name from our parent's policy to avoid a major increase in premiums that they were simply unwilling to absorb. We both had to find and pay for our own insurance policies which was one of our first 'adult' lessons in consequences for our actions.

For the most part, the insurance company, State Farm et al, will try to screw you the best way possible strictly based on their outcome. Their "preferred" shop is not repairing the car in your best interests, they are doing it strictly on the cheapest method possible for State Farm. I do not see anything good with SF involved with Hagerty.

I had one claim involving my daily driver years ago, hit and run sideswipe in a motel parking lot. I got the quote from the State Farm shop, got a check, and took it to the cheapest place in town, for half the money. Good result there. If the GTX got hit, that same result wouldn't be so good. It's a good thing for me I know @eldubb440.

let's hope it never happens...... but if it does, you know a guy :D

"half the money"........ lmao, story of my life

Nope. PC, keyboard, proper monitor. Cell phone remains a communications tool only for me and I often leave it laying
on my desk as I go out and about.
Exactly as it should be!!! The advent of these cell phones as do all-purpose filled entities, have become a very serious concern as they have virtually taken over so many everyday lives these days. One, it appears, cannot live without one as they are constantly on them or have them grafted to their ears. Y'all know I am a rabid Baseball fan and die-hard Cubs fan, so I watch every game they play that is offered on MLB.com Extra Innings for a subscription cost annually. It is really funny that someone would purchase a game ticket, sit in the stands, and then have that phone stuck in their face or take videos and photos of the game. I mean, they are forking out big $$$s to attend and then have them damn phones grafted to their mug or ear. That is why I leave mine on my desk and answer it only when it is necessary to, and rely on my desktop for everything I am working on, as these old eyes cannot handle that small screen anymore. Hope you get a good result from your insurance claim and a bit of advice from an old form Independent Insurance Agent...Get 3 estimates on your own, then use the adjuster's estimate along with those 3 to get the best results for your repair. You are in no way obligated to accept Hagerty's estimate nightmare, and can take your vehicle wherever you so choose...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

It is a routine in the Insurance industry that once a claim check is cut and the claimant accepts it, the claim is essentially closed and done. So, to all those here, you do not have to accept their offering and can go and get other estimates and then file again for the claim to do the job of repair correctly and right...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

Not up here they won't.... trust me, but don't trust them!
A fellow here, swerved to avoid some 4x4’s that had fallen off a vehicle at some railway tracks and rolled his 66 Coronet. Some appraiser on behalf of Haggerty, said fix it. He didn’t have any problems. I supplied some parts for it. Was told to add my time in with the price.

I've been with Hagerty for years. Only had 1 claim with them for damage to my old 928 Porsche. It was hit in a parking
lot pretty good shot in the passenger door and front fender. No way to know who/what hit it. There was a shop at the
time that specialized in Euro cars ( and not cheap! )...Hagerty had no issues with me having them do the work and paying
for it.
Good Luck

Last time I'll chime in. Hagerty Canada is was what was the Silver Wheels deal here, in at least Ontario years ago. It is nothing like Hagerty direct in the USA. Underwritten by Elite and then again underwritten by Aviva who will treat your car like a Honda Civic using the standard body shop estimating system at a max 65 bucks an hour shop rate. Despite what the adjuster tells you... they're out to f you. Why I hope for the OP, that since it's the person that hit him's insurance that's footing the bill, vs some azz the damaged his own car, they'll cover the entire tab.

Distracred driving - this is the result. After 5 years of getting my car the way I wanted it, this is what happens when the other driver is on their cell phone and isn't paying attention. I was stopped to turn left and this guy plows into me. Ask me how I feel. Anyhow, no one was hurt. Now I get to start all over getting my car back to the way it was - and as most of you know, that's going to take a lot of leg work, which by the way, the insurance company (Hagerty) is not likely to compenstate me for MY TIME involved.
This is my small rant for today. I feel better already.
I'll be posting in the "Wanted" section for some parts (especially tail light bezels).View attachment 1919065View attachment 1919066
That sucks. I hope things work out well for you.

Met with the appraiser yesterday. Meeting went well. He has 31 years experience and has dealt with classic cars a lot. I'm thinking this claim is going in the right direction and although it's still early in the process, I've got good vibes about it. We'll see, however, how this plays out in the end.

Still looking for a nice set of tail lights though. I'm betting someone has a nice set on the shelf to help out a fellow enthusiast in need.

I got hit in the rear of my CJ-5 on the LH corner. It is an original 77 golden eagle insured by Hagerty.
Them claim went very well with no issues. The body shop called them when they found additional damage and they did not hesitate to make it right.
Very pleased.

That's good news about a decent appraiser. You have an ad placed and that's good. Hopefully someone can come up with some lights for you. I haven't had mine apart so I'm not familiar with the pieces involved. (I just answered my own question by looking at my photos) Are your lenses ok? It looks like you will need bezels. Are they part of the trim? I have some extra pieces but they are locked up in the storage garage and it may be a week before I can get to them. If I can dig them out I will snap some photos and get them to you. Mine won't be perfect but usable until you can find near new or NOS.

The rear tail light assemblies are are basically 3 parts - lenses, lense bezels and the main bezel. Lenses appear to be ok, but I need to remove for inspection before I'm certain. For sure I'll need the main bezels and a few lens bezels.

I may be able to help. I do see some pieces on E bay but they are pretty pitted.

Before retiring on August 1st I spent 10 hours a day on the road in metro traffic, it seemed like everyone was talking or texting. I’ve been rear ended 3 times, had countless close calls including a car getting airborne right in front of me. A woman in a burka changed lanes without looking and pushed the car in front of me into the Jersey barrier. It launched that poor Chevy Malibu 6 feet into the air in an instant.

I would argue that distracted drivers are just as bad as drunk drivers, maybe even worse.

Be aware that there are 3 styles of the separate lens bezels. The ones used on the big base plates are flat. However, the outside ones that bolt directly to the body on lower priced series Dodges will have a slight left or right curvature to match the rear fender form.
