So probably a dumb question. Restoring a 69 Charger with factory AM 8 track. Getting correct radio/tape player restored by a guy in New Hartford NY along with a Audiovox FM converter. Going for old school day two look. Ordered speakers from Electro-tec . Ordered 5 speakers, 3 in the front and the two 5x7s for the rear. My dash is out and in my basement all redone and was going to mount said 4x10 ctr speaker and not sure how it mounts. No brackets in dash, place for screws etc... Now I am wondering if car came with a center speaker option on an AM 8 track? I know it had the front two on the sides as the wires were cut out when they took the radio. Any thoughts? Can I just run the 4 speakers?

4 speakers is enough for a stereo system, I am assuming 8 track players were stereo output? Does the radio have enough output wattage to carry that many speakers?

There should be 2 small studs near the defrost vents to mount the speaker. The speaker also requires an adapter plate from the factory.

The speaker needs to be a shallow design or the radio will hit it before it is on its rear mounting bracket. Many aftermarket speakers won't fit in a 68-70 b-body.

I have 2 kicker 4” speakers in the factory dash locatio, and 2 JBL 6x9s in the package tray. I’m not using a factory AM 8 track because they’re expensive! I have a 70s FM/8 track player (can’t remember the brand right now ) mounted under the dash. I wired it to a Pyramid 300 watt equalizer booster, and man you’d be surprised the quality of audio you can get from an 8 track with properly tuned stereo!

I made a dual 3" adapter.. had to run a heater cable through one of the speaker cages. Not ideal but worked

Would you believe that just yesterday evening I tossed a rough bracket and clobbered speaker in my recycle bin, thinking to myself now watch some post pop up on the forum where a member needs this junk? Luckily it was still on the top, if you need it we can figure out how to ship it. Needs a soak in Evaporust
