Will different center sections fit in rear axle housings and would you have to change axles??

If your asking about an 8.75 rear, then your answer is yes. Any center chunk / carrier assembly will interchange with another. There are 3 different casting numbers. The last three digits are 741, 742, and 489 numbered cases. They will have a different sized pinion gear. The axle splines should be the same.

The only problem you may run into is there are two different size u-joints. However they make an adapter u-joint that will go from the small one to the large one.
