Might be able to get a 68 Newport for parts. How close would the rear axle Assy be to fitting in my 62 Belvedere ? Overall width and spring pearch width ? would be nice upgragde to have the flanged axles.

The Newport rear axle is quite a bit wider in both perch and overall width. There is a sticky thread in the brake, steering and suspension forum that lists all the rear axle dimensions.

Not a good swap
springs 2” wider
overall 3” Wider

you want a 65-67 B body rear end

The only real issue with the early axle is rear drum removal. My 67 Jeep Gladiator has a similar setup. I ordered a 9/16" hole saw. Used without the center bit will cut thru the swedged area of the drum allowing easy removal.
