Cherokee XJ

I'd take one of these over an FJ any
day of the week. These vehicles are
easy to work on, easy to modify, and
are tough as nails. Congrats!

Awesome buy! I got mine (a 1989 Laredo) in 2007 for free from my FIL after my SIL had an accident in it. They thought the “frame was bent”. Turned out it was only the front bumper extensions were folded over. I used it as a daily driver for about 4 years and added a snow plow to clear my 600 driveway. It did great, but was always breaking something that should last forever. It was a good thing that I could make all the repairs myself or it would have cost me a ton. It even had anti-lock brakes too. I sold it last year because I got a backhoe with a snow blower attachment, so I didn’t need the plow any more.

Good luck with yours!

I like the manual trans XJ in green the best. My sister has had one for years, dragged it with her to Europe, Japan and back to the states while in the military. Even got it restored a bit when in Italy. I have tried to buy it from her a few times but its just not happening she won't sell. I love the 360 degree visibility when driving and the simple design. There are oddball right hand drive versions (USPS) that come up for sale here in Texas every now and then, very tempting.

Don’t really miss ours.

Thanks for all the nice input guys ! It’s been to long with out a project vehicle for me , it’s not a B-Body but it fits my needs.

I put new Synergy steering and a slip yoke eliminator kit on mine this weekend. Really happy with how it feels.

This is one vehicle that never should have gone out of production. An updated power plant could have ben the next gen, and they could have left the entire body alone. They serve all types, in stock form 2 door or 4 door, they sit low enough to drive like a car, but can handle snow(half the country does indeed have to actually drive in snow) they drive easy, they ride nice, they are easy to see out of. Enough power to get out of it's own way, but not so much to cost excessive mpg issues.

They did keep making these..... in China, for at least another decade. Without cat converters on them or any other emissions. Just a simple utility vehicle with a simple drivetrain.

They seem to hold up really well, in areas where they don;t have to deal with.... accelerants. Finding one in WI for example is not a simple task, unless you enjoy body work. I suspect someone could make a small fortune finding these and reworking them to nice and selling them up here. I am not skilled enough.

Kids XJ’s. The tan one was really nice until it rolled into a desert wash.

Still looks good to go ! The green XJ looks great , I like the hood vents ! That’s on my list to do.

Have a '95 parts car (daily driver for years), '96 ( manual trans, 130K miles), and an '01 (fishing, camping, dirt biking vehicle). My son's only vehicle is my sister's old '00 ( nice gold edition, 140K miles). Had a couple others that are long gone. Love them ! Did I mention that I live in Toledo, Ohio ??!!!!

The Grand Cherokee WK2 are nice. On my third one. the last one was a 2014/with just about 200K on it. I have a 2021 trailhawk now. Not anywhere as good on the trails as the XJ’s but still does OK.

I love my WK2 Summit diesel. Not "don't care if I bounce off a tree being a squirrel in the snow" fun like my TJ Wrangler...but EXTREMELY competent on every surface I've put it on (snow, ice, mud, sand, rocks, trails - yes, I've trailed with a $55k luxo-Jeep!). I don't take it out to play much - that's what the TJ is for - but if I HAVE to get somewhere in **** weather...it's my go-to.

So I know it’s not a Bbody , but am I in the Mopar family ? I think so . I do miss my Coronet ! I’ve been watching way too much YouTube.
