Putting an a833 into my 70 coronet.

The car was built to drag race but I don’t know any specs about the 440 engine. The car has an 8 point roll cage, 4 wheel willwood disc brakes, 345/55 tires in the rear (mini tubs), fuel cell with electric fuel pump etc.

So, it’s possible the 440 isn’t stock and i haven’t even driven the car yet, but this a833 has to go in. I have an 11” flywheel just got back from the machine shop for a resurface. Also just got a hydraulic master + slave cylinder assembly. Still need pilot bushing, clutch & pressure plate. Any suggestions much appreciated

Need to know horsepower, car weight, and what the car is used for.

What kind of driving are you doing? Any racing? 5000 RPM and dump the clutch?

Yes it is possible the 440 is not stock.
Better check flywheel bell housing size if it did not come out of the car.

The bell housing is for 11” flywheel. I had to source everything individually. Just had the bearing retainer turned down to fit also..

Car is close to stock weight. Unknown 440 engine. Street driven, would like to take it to the drag strip at least one time next summer. Not dumping clutch at 5k lol

Stay far away from reman units. Beyond that, check in with the clutch companies to get recommendations. Centerforce, Ram, Mcleod etc.

I just ordered an 11” Mcleod Street Pro clutch with organic disc for my 66 satellite. I’m old and a fairly sedentary driver anymore so I don’t need anything more than a 400 hp rated clutch. If you have a built engine and anticipate some racing you might want to move up to the dual friction disc.

Amazing thing was the clutch kit (clutch, TO.bearing, pilot busing and alignment tool) lists for $275. He said in the phone call - $275 + shipping. When they emailed the invoice to me it was for $275, no tax and no shipping! Merry Christmas I guess. Maybe I’ll get an updated invoice later - not sure. But, this is my 4th McLeod clutch in various vehicles and they have worked well for me.

Good info.. After thinking about it, I decided I think I’m going to get a 400-500hp rated clutch kit since that’s about all a stock a833 can handle anyways. IF the engine is build up more than that, the clutch would possibly act as a fuse and protect the transmission during spirited driving. I mostly plan to just cruise though. If I notice slipping I’ll know I have to beef up the transmission before upgrading the clutch.

Liberty still does work on the a-833's. They got started way back in the Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock days when either the a-833 or Ford Toploader were the units to use before the specialized unit came out. Nash, Jerico, G-Force etc.
