I have a turn signal lever that the chrome is bad on. Is there a "do it yourself" method to get all that chrome off so it can be painted? Thanks for any input....................MO

I did strip some off of some taillight bezels for a friend did in a sandblasting cabinet didn't take it completely off but deafly made it rough enough to paint

I'M THINKING A BLAST CABINET WOULD WORK GREAT!! I WOULD MAKE SURE WORKING PSI FOR THE CABINET BE NO HIGHER THEN SAY 20-25 PSI YOU DONT WANT TO GO CRAZY ON IT RIGHT AWAY AND YOU CAN ALWAYS CRANK UP THE AIR PSI !! I WOULD ALSO TAPE OFF THE PLASTIC JUST INCASE !!:headbang::imho:

I tried taking the chrome off in my media cabinet, granted I'm using sand, and at 120 psi, it just scratched the surface of the chrome, but I think it will allow paint to adhere.

I am currently set-up with "Black diamond"...more commonly called Aluminum Oxide..(i think)
It is nasty stuff...
I think the best method is a chem strip...
Chemical reaction compound...

By using Muritic Acid (Hydrochloric Acid) with water...
A 30% mixture..
1/3 to Muritic acid to 1 part water
Soak it or dab it on for a period of time..
Wash and rinse with soap and water...

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for. I know chrome platers use reverse electrolisis, but that is more pricey than the lever is worth. I will try out your method...................MO

I sand blasted the outside rear view mirrors on my Volare and my Challenger, then painted them.
The Volare was painted in 1986, the challenger in 2003. Both are still perfect.
