Installed a fresh 8 and 3/4 center that leaked some gear lube from the pinion seal after refilling. Complete professional rebuild including new pinion seal. Could this be caused by overfilling axle?
Yes ^^^^ a 741 and 489 use a different seal than the 742

That's not saying much if its a leaker.489 professionally built
I have seen this. Fluid crawls up the splines and exits behind the nut and washer or nut threads. Is it leaking from the actual seal or between the yoke and pinion shaft?

I'll have to get under there with a flashlight tomorrowIs it leaking from the actual seal or between the yoke and pinion shaft?
Good idea!Permatex makes a RTV sealer for gear oil. I always smear some of that on the splines before slipping on the yoke.

I haven't checked yet. By the way do you happen to know the torque spec for a 489?Maybe, probably not. Is the vent clear?
EliminatorDid he use a crush sleeve eliminator? Or a crush sleeve?
Well that helps... If you need to replace the pinion seal you just torque the pinion nut, you don't need to worry about a crush sleeve allowing the bearing reload to change...Eliminator
