I am in the process of installing a new clutch. I finally get the transmission bolted back to the bell housing and realize that the release bearing is only clipped on one leg of the release fork. I believe my pivot and/or fork is bent

If it is not bent, is it possible to reconnect the throw out bearing on to the release fork from the inspection cover?

So my question is: Can I install a new pivot and release fork on the the throw out bearing without pulling the transmission off of the bell housing.

It has been a long, greasy and bloody day.

Thanks
Rich

I'm pretty sure you can hook the TO bearing but replacing the pivot might be difficult to impossible without removing the bell housing. If you need more room and don't want to loose your alignment, you might try replacing the tranny to bell bolts and the bell to block bolts one at a time with longer ones. Probably only need a minimum of two alignment bolts.

Well, The pivot was in fact bent. I was able to remove it from the bell housing without removing the transmission. The pivot was cracked in the 90 degree section. So instead of being 90 degrees it was like 30 to 60 degrees.

But since I failed to placed grease in the well of the throw out bearing I will remove the transmission to install the new pivot and grease the throw out bearing. I will see if this is more fun on the second try.
