Hi all,
I am working on a Hemi swap in my kid's car and have a question about the coil packs. It's a 03 5.7 and the coil packs were not on the engine when we got it. I see that there are 2 types of coil packs for this engine. Which are better? I want to install them under the intake so is there a specific type I need? This will be a dual carb setup with a Hemi6 controller.
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Different year coils require different year valve covers....03-05 truck used 1 type, 06-present used another. Now since your mounting them under the manifold, use the 05 and later car coils or 06 and later truck coils, either one is good, in fact they are the same. Factory coils are VERY GOOD. Please post some pics of the project.

The newer style coils I believe have a different plug on the harness too. (correct me if I am wrong Zak). So I recommend using whatever is easiest with your hemi-6 controller. Either way I would expect you to be getting after market valve covers to avoid seeing the mounting bosses after you move the coils to the intake. So the choice should be just convenience.

Pics of the setup would be nice though. I may eventually switch to a sheet metal intake and move my coils as well. But this will only happen much later.

(yes I intend to make my own manifold and make a removable top plate so I can change throttle bodies at will. I was thinking of modding my fly by wire throttle setup to run two throttle bodies vertically so I can run a dual quad air cleaner)

So far its in the collect parts stage. Havent started on it yet.
