Colonoscopy Anybody?

Please don't take offense to Humor regarding the test. it is well known amongst Doctors and Nurses that men are scaredy-cats.
If men believe the colonoscopy exam will result in only bad news, like terminal, they tend to avoid the test. If men are told that the majority of tests come out positive, they would more likely take the test. Out of sight, out of mind as it were.
I am speaking as a person of experience. Why would a Guy wait until 60? Fear that something bad would be found. So, Doctors appreciate Humor, if it gets the Guy to the Exam. So, GET THE EXAM. The vast majority come up negative.
Just me speaking from my experience.

I asked the doctor why the Roto-Rooter van was parked outside. He smiled. I don't remember smiling.

They have great cameras, in color too! HA HA

When it was done they told my wife to take me home, he never fell asleep. However, My wife said I walked like a Drunken Sailor. I said: How do you know how a sailors walks? SLAP.

I was awake during mine, watched the entire process. Did not hurt one bit. So, go get one.

Doctor came into the room, said "I'm behind you all the way!" At that point, it was lights out, woke up an hour later.
Get the test, especially if you have Colon Cancer in the family, like I did. Small price to pay for a peace of mind.

I remember 2 years ago when my dad had his (he's 91 now). Its his first one. he tells me he's going to have one at his doctors request. And that he will be seeing doctors so an so for the procedure. So I say < I hope he has small hands. I actually got a laugh out of him, which made it all the funnier to me.

at 91 it is questionable to have the exam. It is a very slow growing cancer, and the treatment would probably kill the patient. My Doctor said after 70 or so, don't worry about it. Something else will get you. Most Colon cancer patients, Male are 40-55. S0 the 50 year recommendation for a test really should be 40.

The question is my man have you had yours......?
Oh ya......... procedure no big deal..... prep on the other hand............ no fun! As for my dad, not a cancer issue but a colitis related issue.

I’m a too timer......

My dad had colon cancer & beat it... cancer runs in my family so I had it at 35 & again at 55......

i got colon cancer at 41 so if anyone reads this get one done at the latest at 40. you do not want to go thru what im going thru right now. its really not that bad colonoscopy. i hope this helps out. god bless. usaroadrunner

I have kidney cancer and I am still alive; lost part of the left kidney. Found a new growth this month. Oh, well; more surgery.

Been there done that @ 50 & @ 55 still clean {as my *** could be}

it sucks

the prostate exam isn't much better either

The worst part is the day & night before & drinking that nasty IIRC Barium {Sulfate?} stuff
to clean out your bowls, so they can get a good video look at the colon lining,
with the daunting looking camera snake thingy

the fasting isn't fun either, I understand why thou...

On the first one my wife says I told the doctor he was cute while drugged up.
On my second one I had the upper GI scoped too.
I was assured that they used different instruments for either end.

Best of luck to you uwss. Prayers to you. My wifes good friend since like 4th grade found out a few weeks ago she has breast cancer. 50 years old. She found out the day after her daughter finished up with reconstructive surgery for cancer she's been battled for a number of years. She just graduated high school and with be on to college this fall. So yesterday the best friend had a double mastectomy and reconstruction of her own. Cancer sucks and it's been hard on our friends. Prayers to all that has been touched by it and to everyone else too.

Reminded me of a true story I posted here Jan 2014;

An older guy I worked with in England was telling me about an operation he was due for the following week. Ron said that the Dr told him he needed to have a Barium meal before the op. The Dr looked at Ron sideways when he replied that he didn't like German food.
:laughing1:

Im having my second one the 26th of next month. My first was 5 years ago at 47. The worst part is i am having it done at the same hospital that I work at. They wave co pays and deductables for employees. I cant beat free to me. I will just have to look the other way when I pass them in the halls.

i am having one next thursday, thanks for everyone posting about this.

Had my first colonoscopy earlier this year at age 54; I delayed for all the reasons given above. Checked out clean so it was a relief. I finally did it because two years ago I had my first PSA test and it came back off the charts. Turns out I had advanced prostate cancer. Caught it in time though, now my PSA is < 1 (4 is high-side; mine was originally 108). The PSA is only a blood test so no excuse for delaying it if you're over 50.

Ever since I’ve had my ............
