Never used a CAD program before. Can anyone recommend one for a novice who wants to experiment with some custom automotive body work? I have a Macbook. Thank you.

You may be pretty limited with a MAC. I've used AutoCad for the last 20 years and it's pretty user friendly, but I don't believe it is MAC compatible. It's a great 2D and 3D program.

I use Solid Edge. Although it is quite expensive, it does some crazily awesome stuff...

Auto Cad is licensed software and can get pricey pretty quick. I have 2010 Lite and use it mostly for Electrical. I've seen used copies on Ebay fairly cheap, maybe that's an option.
There are some low cost design packages out there, Design Cad I believe is one of them. Make sure you can save files as .dwg or .dxf, that way they can be opened and used with Auto Cad. Hope this helps.

I Uploaded free trial AUTOCAD but would not load because my operating system is 10.6.8 and it required 10.8. I'll keep looking and keep checking here for tips. Thank you.

In the 60's, John Herlitiz came up with the design of both the 70 'Cuda AND the 71 Roadrunner. Clay. Just sayin.
Skill. Vision. Ability. Todays tools are useful, but the individual still drives the design.
