Condenser issue 69GTX

69 GTX - been sitting 44 years. Replacing after market Mallory condenser with new stock condenser from local part store (see pics).
Points adjusted, points cleaned, new coil, new condenser, coil is hot. Still no spark. Question: Does the msd blaster 2 coil have to be grounded?

Get that old condenser out of the system and run the wire from the distributor to the coil negative. Are both point sets opening? Is there 12 volts to the coil with the key on and when cranking? You should be able to trouble shoot that in minutes.

Points are clean n set properly. Voltage to coil drops when cranking.

Yes, the old condenser’s gotta go and we’ll wire coil directly to distributor.
 
Why is th wold condensor top still there?

That water neck is in rough shape.
 
We left the old condenser on just to use it to connect the wires and it was not grounded so im thinking that can’t be the problem.
 
Sly, I have to wonder if the MSD box that is wired into your distributor system is working properly. That box, that is mounted by the battery, was seen in a previous photo you personally sent me. Maybe disconnecting that from the distributor system would show if the distributor would spark a plug on its own. I suggest posting that MSD box.

With those photos the MSD box is not being used. If it was the coil would be driven off the MSD box which the photos show it clearly is not.

I appreciate your comment as I do all others here on this great site.

It’s just my thought, as from a previous picture, there was a lot of wires from the Box that were hard to see where they all ran. It’s mentioned for clarity, some of which is helpful to me.

The Barn Find GTX and Sly B. are in my old neighborhood of friends and unfortunately I’m not down the block anymore.
 
Looking at your pictures, I don’t understand how it’s wired. You need power going to the coil + terminal, normally it comes from the ballast resistor but for test purposes you could run 12v power directly from the battery. The coil - terminal terminal connects to the external stud on the distributor, the points and condenser connect there as well. The distributor body is the ignition circuit pathway to ground, with the rust and corrosion present on that engine I would use a test light or volt meter to verify that the distributor is grounding.

The part about the distributor needing to be grounded reminds me of something, I believe, @HALIFAXHOPS, spoke of and that is the block and the underside of the distributor need a clean connection. Sometimes re-painted blocks are a problem and another problem is sometimes a paper or similar gasket is put between them. The correct “gasket” is a steel washer.
By the way Sly, Halifaxhops is an expert on rebuilding, repairing, parts and sales of reconditioned distributors.
You may have to pull your distributor out to clean underneath Sly. Just note which way the rotor is facing and put it back in the same way.

I believe I got that all right.
