The stud part on the console door were all striped and the nuts loose causing the door to be misaligned. The pressure of the spring didn't help and somebody cut the ends of the hinge pin eliminating the pressure on the door. This door obviously was off before. So now i cant tighten any of those dome type nuts. What i did was run a 10/32 die nut down on each stud and cut threads. A brass nut seems to work best and just be carful tightening the nut, but it works great. New hinge is on its way!

When done, pictures or it didn't happen. Only ever saw one door that was not misaligned. That was a photo on here somewhere. Never in the flesh.

Steve....

Is there some reason why you cannot post pic's of these things? I would like to see your fix...

Imagine if everyone here didn't post pics?

Well J there are a few reasons, one is i dont really know how to. The other reason is even if i did i wouldn't as its really not a big deal. The hinge was played around with and who ever did that, I'm guessing had the door off so that didnt help as you can only screw and unscrew those nuts so many times. Pot metal which i guess the door is made of is very soft and that die nut went right over it and cut easy. The resulting threads were deep enough now to grab. I did look at your build thread last night and its great and very helpful.

Maybe to you but others may want to see including myself.....

It is very easy to post pics....just as easy as you logging in....

No pics yield few if any responses.....I am falling into the latter when it comes to no pics or zero pics if requested....

My misaligned, junk collecting rattle box. Those RT stickers were there when the car was purchased in 1988

Could it be that hinge spring has so much tension, plus those acorn nuts don't really grip that well. I see you have one missing. My new hinge is on the way, next week should be here , will let you know what happens and try and post some pictures

Been a long time since working on it. At one time all fasteners were there and the alignment was better. Not perfect. The door gets opened frequently on road trips. The acorns seem to loosen up easily. Next time threadlocker.

Very true Justin....pictures speak a thousand words.
I reckon if @moparnation74 were to re-write the service manuals, complete with pictures, it would take an entire tree's worth of pulp to produce a single copy. :D Your pictures and descriptions Justin, have helped countless people around the globe when restoring cars, and I have myself learned a huge amount from your postings.

Seriously Steve, you could post a few pics of the problem without endangering your privacy. :)

I had it almost perfectly aligned out of the car. It was better than most I've seen once installed but not straight anymore. However, after the paint shop re-aligned my console door (I have no freakin idea what they were doing even opening it) here is what I was left with.
