Contests You Have Entered?

I've entered several writing contests (i.e. AAA "Your best travel story of the West"), but the "strangest" was vying for a date with a real "virgin". One had to submit a photo and a short introduction to woo the girl to select you. I don't remember who sponsored the contest, could have been one of the girlie magazines (the photo of the girl was attractive). This was circa 1985. I sent a photo of myself with a glass of wine in hand, but she chose someone else. Oh, never won the writing contests either.

I entered a model car building contest at the age of 12. The model, a ‘71 Camaro, was custom painted dark blue w/ gold flake sides. I believe it placed 2nd or 3rd. It was a great feeling. A few days later I went to retrieve it after the display time. Believe or not it was gone!

Now the owners claimed they didn’t know where it went or who picked it up. Adults suck.

They offered another new in the box same model. I took it and built it the same but, no, it was not the same.

Talk about a kick it the prepubescent nuts.

That was one of those defining moments and I finally resolved this lasting mind violation was to tap myself on the back for building such a cool/boss model that someone else had to have it.

I reckon I did get the virgin model! She is still with me.
