Custom Powder Coating ...

A bit of a story on these.

My customer from Australia bought a set of small block Mopar Performance valve covers from California. He had them shipped direct to me.

This witchcraft, and a big chunk missing from the gasket rail on the other, were NOT disclosed in the For Sale ad. (Oil baffle plates were already installed -- mostly hiding the hack job -- so the possibility exists the seller may just be a flipper and didn't know, but I try to give benefit of the doubt.)

I can and will fix it, but a hole big enough to turn an engine into a fountain is not what my guy bargained for.

"Oh wow, what a mess. That is certainly unexpected. If you could call him that would be great. Im happy for you to do what you have to do to fix them please Leanna."

Any ideas on what the butcher was trying to accomplish by cutting the boss/riser off? (The knockout opening is also an 1/8" too big.)

My PSA here is to try to ignore how people suck, to request that sellers be honest and up front with buyers, and that you as a consumer inspect photos closely and ask questions before you pull the trigger.

A couple pictures of how the butchered one looks after initial bodywork (except repairing the hole), five hours of outgassing which produced nominal residue (unusual on used aluminum), and routine blasting. It looked normal ... UNTIL I washed it. It cooked again for a few more hours so all that oil could be pulled from the metal before I proceeded. Somebody certainly gave them a good bath before listing them.

I'm recommending my customer file a PayPal claim if I'm unable to convince the seller to voluntarily provide a refund of at least half the purchase price.

I'd do it for you too. I take this stuff seriously.

Now for the Happy Ending!!!

46 minutes after sending my message:

"New message from: gassser (5,464)

Wow I did not know this. One of my older friends asked me to sell these for him, because he does not do eBay.

If I knew this I would of mentioned it in my listing and sold them at a lower price.

I will go ahead and refund Graeme Burke 50% of the total.

I am sorry for the inconvenience."

I'll post them up when they're done. They'll be similar to yours @MarPar -- down under!

I received word that a Kentucky customer won the Bluegrass World of Wheels last weekend with his '79 Dodge Warlock II!

In other news, the repairs are finished on the butchered MPs in my previous post and they'll be in six colors soon!

Following up on my earlier post at Custom Powder Coating ... for the gentleman in Australia, the big MP dress up package is now fully repaired and finished in 7 colors!
The air cleaner came with two holddowns, one a knurled billet piece and the other a simple wingnut, so I coated both to give him options. I'm really jazzed about how the repairs turned out on that pcv opening.

Hit me up if I can help with your project too!! (There's some work in line but it hasn't been like this since 2010 ... usually there's 35-50 here this time of the year. I can take on a few more before Spring hits.)

Thank you all for your support!!

OMG my favorite movie!!!:carrot:

It's the fourth based on your idea, now going international!! Two had matching air cleaners, this set and one with candy colors on Long Island for a Newport.

But being an artist and of the opinion no one should have "cookie cutter" stuff, I always change up at least one color (usually more) so each of you has your own custom stuff unlike any other on the planet.

The next voodoo is Ford stuff, starting powder Monday.

Thanks for all the love gentlemen!!

Straight up as always, I could use some work if anybody is inclined. I know shipping costs are figuring in adversely and our economy is in the crapper but this has been THE slowest "busy season" since I opened in 2007.
I'd love an opportunity to earn your business instead of helping out your local guy!!!

PLEASE!!

I don't wanna go back to working for lawyers.

If only I was a bit closer....I could send some more work your way Leanna.

As anyone who has ever had a job done by the Mistress of Metal, there is none finer workmanship to be had anywhere else.:lowdown::lowdown::lowdown::lowdown:

I wish you all the best with upcoming work. I'm sure someone out there who has benefitted from your perfection will throw you a bone soon.

It's been a pretty busy summer around here and I haven't been on the boards much.
How about some vintage Powder ****???

This customer and his son are both building projects. These two set ups were planned with overlapping colors so they can swap parts if they choose.

Check out the Mickey Thompsons. They're the FIRST SET of big block versions to ever cross my bench that were not Made in Japan!
The most notable difference is the 1" tall M/T logo along with other cosmetic changes. Having @Scott Engelhardt's Japanese set here at the same time allowed me an undeniable opportunity to compare them. I have pics if anyone cares to see.

Every piece always needs bodywork. Chipped fins, casting defects, oxidation and "$&@#!!! I dropped the wrench!" impacts are common.
The poor old Performer looked like it lived in a lake for a few years though with serious corrosion along both sides that invaded recesses and even the heat crossover channel. It needed a lot of bodywork.

Leanna did valve covers for me and they are SEXY!

I realized why the pictures of yours looked so fuzzy Scott.

The plastic protector on my month-old phone was still on the lens!
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Chalk up a blonde moment for the redhead. Ugh.

Thanks again for being so fabulous to work with! I'm delighted you're happy!

Here's some high quality Jeep springs and transfer case brackets. Unfortunately my newish phone decided the Before Pictures weren't worth saving or something.
