Looking for photo examples of those that have cut holes in steel hoods for scoops. Did you just cut a 15"-ish hole offset just for the air cleaner? A larger centered circular hole? A hole that follows the supports under the hood? (like the attached photo)

Mainly looking for photos of how it looks with the scoop on and the view from the front.

And I know cutting a factory steel hood will not be a popular choice, the car is a 69 super bee with an n96 hood that will be stored, the hood I am planning to cut is a plain flat steel hood that is in rough shape. The scoop I currently have is a hemi dart/barracuda scoop, but may end up going 6 pack. My plan is to attach it with some panel bond and screws or rivets. Reasoning is I would like to run a tall single plane and carb spacer, currently running an rpm dual plane with a drop base and the filter still contacts the hood just a bit, with no spacer.

Whether its steel or 'glass, its gonna look like this - in other words, without getting up close all you'll see is a dark void !

And ... depending on your choice of air cleaners you'll probably need to hack into the rear structure.

I used the skin from the original hood (reinforcement all rotted out) to bend up a scoop for my 65 Belvedere. I cut a round hole to fit my choice of filter and then cut the reinforcement back another 1 1/2" to leave me a flat area to seal the filter housing to the hood skin. Then made cardboard templates to cover the cut back openings and welded them in-not attaching them to the hood skin-just floating below it. The attachment was made with panel adhesive.

Here is how mine was done many moons ago. Box frame to stiffen the hood sheet metal.

Had the hood off and I did the diagonal measurements from the engine compartment to find the center of the carb stud location and copied the measurements to the hood, but if the hood is on, you could just close it on a long air filter stud to find the center of the hole location. Anyhow, because the engine is offset to the passenger side, the hole will be off set also, not centered in the hood.
I think I cut the hole 16" for a 14" filter, then made and welded in a sheet metal hoop to reinforce the hood to the under structure, and it pokes up about 1/2" above the hood to keep water out. You might want to put small drain holes in each corner inside the hood scoop so water dosen't sit/collect under the scoop.
