Damn you chip foose

Whatever happened to Stacy David's home visit concept on GEARZ. I watched the 1st one about helping the teen get his Dodge Ram truck fixed up. But I haven't seen any others. Maybe it's because I cut the cord and he doesn't share full episodes of GEARZ on YouTube.
 
He can take over on my '67 any time he wants to - as long as he leaves off those damn big diameter wheels. These cars wasn't made for them and they look like crap in my opinion. I don't want my hot rod to look like a junior swamp buggy! If I wanted to go 4 wheelin' - I'd bought an old PowerWagon.

I've watched several episodes of his show and usually like what he does and the color schemes he uses. There have been a few times where the owner had started modifying the engine and he switched it out for something else, even though the owner was happy with the new powerplant - I think if I had the good beginnings of the motor I'd want, he could use that as a base and go up from there.

I'd much rather have him work on a car as opposed to Richard Rawlings or Boyd Coddington.

The ones I don't like are these fake 'tribute' cars or the 'clones'. There's nothing wrong with having a fast Coronet that is not an R/T and hanging a couple of emblems on it doesn't make it an R/T. Same thing applies to the other models. You want to put scoops on your hood, that's fine, but don't run out and do that, then start calling it a Super Bee just because it looks the same. I take more offense at those type operations than a good custom job that doesn't try to hide the original identity of the car by claiming it is something else. Personally, when I run across someone with a 'tribute' or a 'clone' - I move on, they have nothing I want.

IMO some I like more than others,
seemingly they're just mindless entertainment for the masses,
they have to try to appeal to the non-car people too...
Most that don't build their own stuff, pay someone else to do it...

I prefer to build my own & do, that way, it's the way I want it, bare none...
If you want it done right In my experiences,
IMO you really only get what you want, if you can do it yourself...

My beef is I want more technical aspects but that'd bore the masses too...

To each their own, that's what make the world great we aren't all clones,
that follow the same drummer, that'd be boring as hell IMO...

Agreed, I got to see Troy Trepaniers sick Torino in bare metal a couple years ago at the Good Guys Show and was floored! That car had nearly every inch of it customized and you couldn't find a flaw in it bare, I mean grafted metal work that needed no filler and the detail was breath taking. I could have looked at that car all day!
 
What I like are the "one-of-none" cars, or phantoms. Cars the factory NEVER built, but a guy with vision and talent builds one for himself - like a Hemi B-body wagon. A 440 Duster. A sleeper '70 Fury I four-door with a 440+6 or a 383 with dual quads under the hood...and maybe a four speed!

True, although I've never liked the convertible Chargers haha!
 
I see both sides of this he's making the car "better" to some it's perfect to others it's a mess.I like org cars ,survivor cars and pro Turing cars . I hate cars that don't appear as they should so say pro Turing yeah it's a bit diff the wheels brakes but that's about it (you can see) I guess I like hidden up grades . These cars are beautiful from the factory why hack that up . The big getto wheels arnt my thing but some like them the air ride agen not my thing but I see the advantage of it . I guess whe can be happy it was on overhauling and not pimp my ride:yes:
Then the thing would have spining wheels(not the good kind) a milliont.v's and speakers door popers neons and maybe a chandelier and waterfall in the back seat.so as long as he would stay in his set boundarys he could do some work on my cars but I would be watching him like a halk

Maybe some of us need to start watching "described video". Then you can use your own imaginations... so it should always look nice. Ah, who am kidding. We can't make everyone happy. Haha

It's not just Foose who's taste are not appealing to me, but everyone who puts those big gaudy wheels on with rubberband tires that have no sidewalls. Donk is not for me.
 
You know the one thing I always notice about these threads is that the Pro Street, Pro Touring and Hot Rodders always seam to be polite and respectful towards the more correct cars but never receive the same treatment? I've been at shows where guys would bluntly say that I ruined my car with the wheels! I on the other hand would never insult a persons car even if it was hideous so just try to be a little more open minded and remember if you ever come across one of these cars on the road you better hope it's a short, straight stretch of road before you go taunting them haha. Point is..... be nice!
 
I wish someone would offer to restomod the **** out of my 67 Net.....so long as they left the tall rims off and didn't cut the body. Everything else is fair game. I can appreciate a restomod just as much as an original.
 
Foose.....or not.

Hmm.....Chip Foose. Gotta say I like him. He is a great guy and a true car nut. He is uber talented at sheetmetal fab and mod. He sees the way a car "could" look and then builds that car. Not easy. He does not always do what I would have done with some cars but that's life. I agree with the guy who said he would rather see a car that a guy used his imagination on and turned out a sick car that maybe should have been built by the factory. I went to a local show a few weeks ago that had about 35 cars. I walked straight up to a butter yellow 65 Comet and stayed for 30 minutes. I didn't even look at any other cars. I'm not a Ford/Mercury guy but this dude had his "book" out front showing him doing all this work to his ride. He had a sharp car there with several mods I intend to do. I picked his brain dry and he and his lovely wife enjoyed showing the car and talking about it. It was an awesome car and very cleanly done. To me it's not about the big picture so much as the journey it took to get there. Look closer at those cars you don't like and see the cool stuff that has been done along the way. There is something for everyone in most cars if you look a little deeper. Now, the Riddler Award Winner " IMPOSTER IMPALA" is a complete show stopper. Love it. Even the wheels which I usually hate. He sliced and diced that 65' body to fit over that 2009 Corvette and it looks bad ***. The only thing I would have changed would be to incorporate a 69' Charger roof and sails and back window. I have always thought they would blend in on that body and look at home there. IMHO. See picture.

When these cars were designed and built they had to satisfy a committee of engineers , govt regs. , and bean counters. They had to appeal to the masses and make a profit. It is amazing some were as nice as they are. Having watched the Overhauling gang at SEMA it is amazing what they can get done. The talent is truly over the top. Foose , trained by his father since childhood , has a technical and mechanical skill set hard to believe. What they create is a example of a vision of a artist. We can stand back and comment and have opinions and the artist can appreciate that also. Each of us obtains and creates according to our desires , talents , skill set and budget learning from others along the way. What a great hobby , job , sport or whatever this is. Watching Overhaulin' on Velocity. Chipper is planning to put a Mopar-looking billboard quarter stripe like the E Bodies on a Firebird! WTF. "One of a kind" Foose graphic. I'm thinking a visionary came up with that in the Auburn Hills in the 60's.
