Dash lighting head scratcher...

70 Road Runner rally dash. When the dash light rheostat is at full bright I get only a faint glow. Seems to brighten up a bit if I rev the motor, but not much. However, the aftermarket gauges connected to the dash lights are really bright. I already replaced the dash light roller switch, no help. What next?????

Check for a ground (negative) from the dash cluster to the body/frame, and check that you door switches are sitting on clean steel in their threads. Sounds to me like a loose or rusty ground connection.
