Dash restro

It's melted onto the cluster bezel.

Can you post a picture of the back side of cluster?

Yea figured out the lighter thing already, but thank you. As you can see I already painted it and started putting back together. Thanks a lot though

About the plastic glass on cluster, when I pop it off, what's the best way to put back? Pop in? And you know the best way to repolish it?

Let me know thanks

The lighter has a screw on piece on the back that holds it in place. If you rotate the ignition switch from the back of the dash, it should loosen it from the screw on front piece. This is the way I tightened and loosened mine. You can generally loosen the slotted radio nuts with a small screwdriver that will fit in one of the two slots. All you have to do is get it to break loose a bit and they should come off with your fingers. Just be sure not to scratch anything around it in the process.

I had my dash, ashtray and glove box parts blasted and powder coated for about $80 and it came out great. You need to take that chrome off too!

I have found no paint that really looks like chrome. I bought dash bezel and glove box repops. Some of the chrome used for models can be bought in sheets with a sticky back and looks great, but it is a lot of time and trial and error with an x-acto knife. You can also buy new metal knob centers, but a set for all dash and radio knobs plus the flasher is about $70.

If I remember correctly, the lens is kind of melted onto the dash cluster at a few points, but will pop off. These can generally be repolished if they are not broken or badly scratched and repops are available of the lens also.

I have my dash out too and the plastic windows are melted on. i expect that once its clean/polished and back in place on the tabs, i'll take a soldering iron and melt the plastic just enough at the mounting tabs to trap it on there again. Anyway, thats my plan and i'm sticking to it.

Let me know how it goes, if it works great I'll give it a try myself. How do you plan on polishing yours?

The ignition switch should not turn from back side of dash if installed correctly. There is a slot in dash panel that the correct switch fits into to keep it from rotating while installing nut.

Hey guys been a while since the update on the dash restro! I repainted the needles on cluster. Let me know what you guys think! Also repainted emblem. Here's before and after pictures!! image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

As you can see I left a little spot unpainted on speed meter to see the difference

Hey Del, sorry it's been awhile, I have not tried to take off the lens yet. I'm deep into media blasting and whatnot. I wont start fooling around with the small stuff until we are buried in snow here in Vt. I'll let u know though.

I just did the dash bezel on my 65 coronet, the lense was already off and pretty hazey, i used meguires plastic polish, and reattached using pertmatex clear epoxy. it turned our very nice( i think).WP_20141121_001.jpg
the epoxy works for steel as well, the coronet has a metal shield that goes behind the lense and the epoxy worked great for that as well. i will be installing new overlays on my gauge faces as they are very grey from over exposure to the AZ sun.

Cool! Thanks man! I'll be putting mines back on some time this week and post photos!
