Hey guys I like to think out of the box and started thinking,I can't afford a Rotisserie nor do I have the length to keep it in so ,how else can I get the car roled on its side to work on it? Well I thought ok we could hang it from the rafters, useing 4 chains (one on each corner) that way I could shorten one side lengthened the other and have the car sideways . Right sound logical? Now here is where my big ?'s are first off how heavy do we think my striped to nothing 72 charger is (no rear no k frame).next ? I would say the rafters 2x4's are going to need a bit of help so I was thinking getting 4x4x10 and running a few of these to dispurse the load over muti 2x4's ,do you guys think this would be enough to keep from a falling body ?
All the car needs done is sand blast belly wheel wells and weld up a few spots and prime out the under side then (undercoat,Rhino line ,?) Not shure ye. So it will be hung for at least a week or two , now 3rd and final ? Will the body have problems being hung like that it's a hardtop car ,I was thinking of makeing a cart to set it on when it's not being worked on to help not damage anything. Should I brace the door opening s on this car (doesn't look necessary)

So what do you guys think ,can it work or am I going to kill my self ?

Also if anyone has a rotisserie I could borrow in the area please let me know how long it is so I can see if it's even a possibility. If not chains and straps are looking prity good .

My thinking is if you raise one side past the center of gravity it will flip and kill you for sure, also hanging on chains the thing will move and swing in all directions while your working on it.
Find or make a rotisserie and live to drive it some day.

Yeah, what he said ...

I'd hate to be reading about you on the Darwin Awards. Stay safe.

I guess I need to bit the bullet and get a rotisserie, it's not like I won't use it agen with 3 cars needing resto plus I want a 66-67 charger so maybe 4 cars needing resto if I can get a decent one of those

How about this thing...

I think I would rather try the hanging car trick over this thing and save the money for my funeral when it falls on me

get something safe
the 2x4 & even 4x4 added won't support crap
I wouldn't do it...

bare body is probably 1800-2000#'s way too much for that lumbers load

Completely bare body is probably about 600 lbs. Now we're talking everything off, hood, trunk, front fenders, glass, interior, bumpers, suspension...

From my experience with the rotisserie hunt, i found it impossible to find on to rent or borrow. After extensive search for a used rotisserie, it quickly became apparent that i would spend as much on a used unit as a new one. Understanding that funds are an issue for all of us, I waited until i could afford to buy a new rotisserie, used it for a year, then turn around and sold it for exactly my cost and had people waiting in line to buy it.

If I ever need another, I'll do it again.

That's what I did when I restomoded my car. Sold my cherry picker and engine stand years ago when I thought I was done messing with hotrods. Had the room to store them back then. Fast forward to retirement and a 2 1/2 car garage instead of a 1500 sq. ft. shop and a new project. Went to Harbor Freight and bought a 1 ton cherry picker and their best engine stand. Unboxed them in the parking lot and carefully packed them into my Cad CTS. Used them for about 8 months and then put them on Craigslist. Sold them for $55.00 less than I paid for them, or about 2 days worth of renting them. The guy at Harbor Freight even let me use one 20% off coupon, leave the store, and come back in to buy the engine stand with another 20% off coupon. Worked for me...

Yeah the car is 100% stripped nothing left on it but it's paint ,the length of the rotisserie I think is a problem whatsoever a normal rotisserie length isn't it over 20'

A couple thoughts I had. Whenever I own something like this my friends are ALWAYS wanting to borrow it so you buy it, use it and then let them use it (and store it of course) until you are ready for it again.
Or better yet, buy one, use it and then BE that person who rents it. Someone else is storing it for you as you make $ on it.......maybe I should do this now that I'm thinking about it. Lol.

Yeah I'm going to look into the rotisserie, I need it on my two chargers and deff need it on my 64 Newport conv (very rusty) so it won't go unused I just don't have a lot of room to play with that's my only concern I need a shop !

Oh yeah need money too

I've seen that pic ,I can't believe that . All you need is one of your buddy's to come kick your 4x4 as a joke to see how fast you can move .

Working underneath a suspended car is like this................

"The sword of Damocles is hanging over my head
And I've got the feeling someone's going to be cutting the thread
Oh, woe is me
My life is a misery
Oh, can't you see
that I'm at the start of a pretty big downer"
