The way I look at it is back in the day when the stock cars were really "stock" cars Chrysler invested heavily in developing some of the best cars / engines to compete in the series. For all their hard work they were awarded a ban for the then ahead of their time 426 engine and superbird autos. As nascar "grew" it turned into a political **** show where the dominant force were the GM based programs. Rules catered to this new generation of race teams and it just didnt make sense anymore for those outside the inner circle. I get a kick out of the people cheering for their favorite manufacturer. Theres not a part on those plastic cars you could buy at a Ford / GM dealer....
