Does anyone make a good heater control valve

I purchased a Four Seasons heater valve #74643 from Summit racing. Installed it to find that it does not completely stop hot water flow to the heater core. Sent it back, they sent another, and it is the same. In Phoenix we do not need a lot of heat output from the cars heater. These heater valves are blowing hot air out of the vents all the time.

I took off the temp wire to eliminate that from keeping the valve from completely closing. Tied the valve closed with a wire tie. Took the valve off the car, with the valve closed I can blow air through the inlet and feel it come out the outlet.

Is there another brand that works?

Paul, I found the same thing.
Four Seasons makes a manual valve you can install to completely shut the coolant flow.
Along with or without the the heater valve #74643

Yep that's the one. Shut it off in the summer open in the winter.
Now there is the case that can be made that it is best to allow the coolant to flow constant or some what to keep the heater core from clogging.But that's a "Your call" kind of thing.

This is the problem. We use A/C here 7 months of the year. The A/C is converted to 134, it blows so cold you need to add a little heat to moderate the cold air coming out of the vents. Not all the time, but some times.

Mine is supposed to be factory for a/c equipped 74 Charger. Ordered from Orielly and it works great. I replaced it because the other one was on there long enough and not for a failure. I had also removed the heater a/c box entirely and put in a universal heater from Summit. Sure opens up some space under the dash. Still uses the original cable from the slider under the heater control.

The Everco H2994 heater valve arrived. It does a 100% shut off when tested with air. It is made for 75 and later, so I expected issues. It has a slightly different mounting bolt pattern which is no big deal, but the biggie, it operates *** backwards from the 71 to 74 valve.

I am going to plumb it in and make sure it stops the hot water flow 100%. Then decide what to do.

Darter6 here are some pics of the a/c heater box I took out of my Charger. You can see how much space opens up under the dash. The hot tub in the background also gives a good idea of the overall size of this unit. I will see if I can find some more pics of the install and post when I can.

I went out today and put the new wipers on and thought about this thread so I took some pictures of the heater valve and this one does have the return loop on it so coolant still circulates when it is closed to the heater core.

I needed one on my ‘69 sport satellite ....I called Joe at www.heater valves.net and he had an original Ranco valve on hand. He rebuilt and shipped it to me......the price wasn’t the cheapest, but what is on these cars? I now have a rebuilt good quality copper/brass valve that fits as it should. I couldn’t be happier.
