heading out to the wrecking yard soon to find a good donor for a 360 eng for my sons 74 dart. what should I look for? I was thinking small RV or van. any other ideas for good parts heads intake ect? looking to do a basic re-ring and mild cam.

Trucks, easier to pull. 71/2 and some early 73 will have the J heads. Same casting as the 340 heads but with 1.88 valves.

Also you'll need a car 360 oil pan and pickup. The 360 spool mounts may be kinda hard to find. The 360 didn't come in a B body til 74 and C-body in 71

I got my 71 block out of a motorhome. Came with 915 casting pre-smog heads. Been running it as a 408 with ported Magnum heads for about 5 years now.

Btw, an oil pan for a 360 is 360 only...none of the others will work.

I have a '78 360 with smog heads in my '68 Satellite that the last owner put in. I'm up in San Jose, CA and currently building a 451 big block for my car. Once that motor is done in the next 3-4 months I'll be looking to offload the 360. You can have the whole thing front to back including the Torqueflight 904 and all pumps, pulleys, etc cheap if you want and don't end up finding an earlier year motor. I know it's a bit far, but to help a fellow mopar head out I can let it all go for a few hundred bucks since I know you'll have to do the transport. The previous owner told me this 360 came out of a '78 Dodge Truck (D100 is what I always tell the part stores) and he rebuilt it to stock specs. Supposedly only 40K miles on it when I got it and I've only put another 1K on it before I decided to build the big block.

I've done some research on the smog heads and supposedly with some brass inserts (instead of full port job per a mopar action article I read) they are supposed to flow pretty good. Mine are stock with nothing done to them so they're not that great right now, but I've heard they can be made to be.

Also on my 360 I recently put in a new carter mechanical fuel pump, water pump, coil, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, and mopar distributor. I asked for a water pump for a '78 360 at the auto parts store and they didn't have it. They did have one listed for a 318 motor (high volume with 8 veins instead of 6) and it fit perfect when I installed it.

thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind San Jose, thats northern cali right? near San Fran?

Get a 360 out of a early 90's throttle body injected PU - they have really good heads on 'em. Swap out the pan, pickup and intake.
