My knees both have been cleaned up by scope in the past. 5 or 6 years back.
Since this past summer my left knee has been getting bad again.
Then during the past month my left hip was getting pretty dang sore if I walked to long or was on a ladder to much.
I was putting the blame for that hip on my knee but finally went to the Dr.
XRay of both hips and knees.
Left knee is now bone on bone, left hip is bone on bone.
He shot me with some kind of jell into that knee to help it.
Told me he can not use the jell on hips and at this point a cortisone shot in the hip would do nothing.
So he's waiting on me to pull the trigger. He wants to do the hip before the knee. Said I need a total , both ball and socket on the hip.
I'm going to Des Moines for a second opinion.

Man, that's a lot of wear/damage for someone your age.

Best wishes to you.

Thanks , yep at 67 I figured it would be awhile yet before I had to deal with this crap.
The worst part is 6 weeks of getting back to normal.
IDK mabey more whiskey will do the trick
:drinks:

Get the total. Partial replacements SUCK, and will go bad in 1/4 the time of a total.

Get it done, and DO YOUR PT when they're done. It'll hurt. It'll suck. You're gonna hate it.

Just do it.

Trust me.

I need a knee but have been putting off. I’d like to keep my OEM parts as long as I can, but I know the clock is ticking.

Don't fret about the hip. It's very straight forward and a simple joint. Rehab usually just consists of some basic exercises at home and simply walking on it. I had my first one replaced a month before I turned 47. I had the other replaced 3 weeks after I turned 58.

The knee is more complex and more work to recover, but still a routine procedure. I'm still good with my knees, but @Thunderlugs just had his first knee replaced and will be getting the other done in a couple of months.

As everyone always says, you'll be glad you had it done! Living with that pain isn't necessary!

Yeah, unfortunately it is time for a hip replacement for me, but I'm going to push it off until late this fall or winter. I don't have time to be recovering in the spring/ summer.

To 67: Were you hard on your body, like being an athlete or a job that worked your body hard? Or is it just the luck of the genetic draw?

My neighbor at his done at around 64, he was back like two days later and walking up and done the street with a walker later that week. The walker was only temporary, hopefully your recovery goes that quickly.

Several friends have had hip replacements. Say it's the best thing they've done. Advise your surgeon to do anterior, not posterior. Big difference. One friend who had both told me so. According to what I've heard, you'll feel GREAT afterwards ! Best of luck !

Just school sports, and always worked for a living, my mother had a hip and a knee replaced. So......
Just luck of the draw i guess.

I hear you Hawk, Dr tells me 6 weeks to get around real good and back to work.
Funny thing was the damn thing started to feel better after he said we need to swap it out.

My Mom will be 89 this year. She fell a few months back and broke her hip and shoulder.
She had the hip replacement. She is up walking fine and no pain. It's amazing what can be done nowadays.

My friend (now 58) had both hips done a few years ago.

He was back up and walking in under 3 weeks both times.

I find that incredible, as I've seen the surgery on TV.

It seems to involve some serious, repeated pounding of the joint with a fairly large hammer.

...after all the drilling, of course.
