Dreaded VP44

Mike, start using 1oz. of 2 stroke per gallon of fuel!! Your on borrowed time for the VP44, so get another on the way. The 2 stroke will help lubricate the internals on the VP44 and make it last a bit longer. With that code, some guys have gone years, some have gone a few miles. It's really a crap shoot as too how long it will last.

I usually add Lucas treatment about every 3rd fill up and try not to let the tank get below 1/4....
I was reading about that code and gave 3 probable causes, timing, vp44 and lift pump psi...I've replaced the lift pump once with a Carter type unit... It didn't sound to good when I was messing with it today..Started pricing the combo kits with a Fass /Airdog or Fuel Lab....sounds like smart money might be to just do the complete upgrade as my VP has 350k on it... Don't want to spend $1500 either but the savings are significant if you purchase as a kit...
I just don't feel good about buying a rebuilt pump, all the adds say they're better than oe but that's rarely the case....

There is no "new vp44's"! They are all rebuilt and tested on a $250000k Bosh test stand. Use the 2 stroke at every fill up, it's what helps lube the internals on the vp44. I would get a new lift pump and vp44. Spend the day to r/r and be done with it.

Ya I know....I just don't know what the difference is between a $1000 unit vs a $1500???? Mine is the 235 variety which I've found the VP w/ Fass Titanium for $1500+, or one for $1300 with the Fuel Lab or with just a DDRP ( no air seperator)

I got mine for $1025 and the FASS Titanium 150 gph for $500. Just get a stock replacement vp44 and your good. Also get one with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Turns out the Edge Evo HT tuner I have for my truck sets the cel. Did some researching and the part number I have 36030 is not for Ca. trucks and I need 36031. Anyone want a deal on this?

I put quite a bit of used motor oil and trans fluid through mine over the years. Got to stay away from the synthetics though....
