I have successfully installed my 440, 727 in place of the wide block 318,727. It fit perfectly and the transmission is exactly in the same place. When I went to install the original driveshaft however, it would not slide into the big block transmission. The splines appear to be the same with the exception of a space of 5 or 6 splines worth on the driveshaft. Is it different or am I just not hitting the correct location going into the transmission? Thanks.

I went to look at another driveshaft last night and took mine along for comparison. They were the same except for the universal size. He had a tranny there and my driveshaft slid right in which means that there is a problem with mine. It was suppossedly just rebuilt too. Go figure.

take a peek in there with a flshlight and see if you can see anything.pull the seal if you need to.

I will pull the seal and have a look. The driveshaft slides in about 4" (seal included) and comes to a dead stop. If I can't see anything, Can I pull just the tail without too much trouble? Hopefully it won't come to that.

I pulled the seal and looked inside and all I can see is the shaft and everything looks clear. The only thing that I can see that could be holding me up is the rear shaft bushing. I can pound the driveshaft in partway and pull it back out with no apparent damage but when its in, its too tight to turn. Suggestions????

You might have to take off the tailshaft housing and see if it is the bushing

i would pull the tailshaft housing for a better look.bushing could be out of place or something could be broken.:eusa_think:
