What are the differences between the intakes? I always hear the RPM performs better even on a nearly stock engine....

The standard performer is simply an OEM style intake the only real advantage is it weighs less the than stock cast unit.
But the RPM is a performance intake.

Yes the rpm range is SLIGHTLY different;
-Perf is; off idle-5500rpm
(50 state legal)
Dual plane
-rpm is; 1500-6500rpm
(not 50 state legal)
dual plane

I seen a regular Performer (the one used on dump trucks and motor homes) run low 12's in a B body. Surely there were better choices but it wasn't the kiss of death. I do fairly well with a factory iron 4 BBL intake.

The RPM Performer has much smoother profile runners and no heat crossover and a larger cut out in the plenum divider. Clearly a nicely designed intake that promotes good flow and fuel distribution. The regular performer has no cut out in the plenum divider, runners are similar to OEM appearance and will accept a TQ carb.

I didn't mean to imply that the performer intake is "bad" it isnt, as you said a stock 4bbl cast iron intake isn't "bad", but for performance there are much better intakes.
Before Eddy changed the literature they even said that the performer intake is a "...factory replacement intake..."

Cranky, what combo are you putting together anyway? I don't know that I've seen what your goals are...is this for the Belvedere?

Actually, this engine was built for a truck....a pickup and not a dump :D and it will be used until I get a 400 based engine together and yes, it'll go into my 66 Belvedere. It has a Hemi grind cam with titanium retainers (have several sets so why not use em) on the 516 heads with a mild port job with the most attention paid to the bowls. Other than that, it's a stock bore with moly rings, forged crank, LY rods. The truck was sold long ago and had this engine up for sale to fund my 400 build but no one seemed interested in it so I'm going to use it for myself. I just bought the RPM intake as I sold just about everything that I had laying around for a 440 since my plans were to not use a 440 and wanted to sell it as a long block. I even sold my TR that I used on a 10.60 car with an RB engine. Oh well.
