Electronic Voltage Regulator keeps going bad

I have a 1965 Belvedere II that has a 1970 Mopar electronic ignition installed. I keep having the voltage regulator going bad. I started out with cheap VR's and have moved up in price to the $39.00 units. Still the same result, I get a week or so of use then they go bad. I am pretty sure I have something wrong besides the VR. Any suggestions?

If you don't have a GOOD ground on the voltage regulators they will go bad and cause all kinds of problems. Check that you have good/tight metal to firewall contact on the regulator. Trace the wires and look for exposed wire, corrosion, rubbing, shorts, etc....

I hate to admit this, but I did find the problem, which I believe will also turn out to be the source of some other phantom electrical problems. Long story short, a while back I changed out the pigtail and plug that goes to the VR. When I crimped the wires back together, I messed one of the crimps up and it was barely making contact. I replaced and recrimped the wiring connections and the problems instantly cleared. I will wait and see before I claim success, but I am pretty confident this was the problem all along. Well DUH on my part.
