How can I verify if the engine in my Superbee is the right one for the car? Can the vin number tell me?
I got the engine number and date from the side of the block, but is there any other place to verify it?

Since you mentioned that it came from the side of the block, I'm going to assume its a 69, 70 or 71 car? The last 6 digits of the engine stamp will include the VIN that should match the dash VIN. The fender tag will also have the VIN. If you have a build sheet, that will have it as well. Core support is also stamped with partial VIN and the left trunk gutter (under the weatherstrip) Some engines have the entire VIN stamped and some are only partial VIN's just so you know. 68 engines were stamped on the rear of the engine near the oil sending unit. 68 fender tags and the core support will be stamped with the order #, which is not the same as the VIN.

Basically the point is - for 68 - that the VIN tag, engine, & trans will have the last 6 of the VIN. Whereas the data tag, core support, & trunk drip rail will have the order number along with plant & year code. So without the original MSO (manufacturer's statement of origin) or the original window sticker (which both will contain the VIN & VON) it is not possible to match a VIN tag, engine, & trans with a particular body.
