First off carb just got rebuilt.Got ignition figured out. Whoever hooked up coil previously hadnit backwards. The brown wire was on - and black wire in +. Got to start. Having a hell of a time getting it to idle under 1000 rpm and when u drop in reverse it falls and dies. Also it starts in neutral, but not in park now. Gotta check my nss next I guess. Probably dirty again. Any thoughts in idle. Haven't checked timing(no light), haven't found any vacuum leaks. Also i have vacuum advance hooked to passenger front port of edlebrock. Any tips be appreciated

What ya working on? Year, model, engine and ignition type would all be help full.

Oh sorry. Its a 1973 dodge charger. 318/904, decent cam, edlebrock carb and intake, stock electronic ignition. New fuel tank, new plugs,

need cam specs; who made it, grind number, and cam card if you have it.

Start looking for vacuum leaks and do not forget to check the vacuum advance can in the distributor.

Cam is summit racing cam is 218/228 degrees @ .441/.441 .

How would I know if vacuum advance is bad?

The vacuum can arm inside the distributor will not move with applied vacuum if the can is bad. You can also disconnect the vacuum line depress the arm stick your finger over the hole a release the arm. It should extend real slow if at all. Would be best to test with a vacuum pump and gage if you have one.
