Engine numbers

bought my GTX in 85...... appeared to be bone stock, unmolested, and a little beat up with 114,000 miles....unaware of "numbers", I assumed it to be the original engine, and I pulled it out to save it for later

fast forward to a time where I rebuild the 440, and started to become aware of build dates, HP stamps ect....... my intake and exhaust manifolds all predate the fender tag date by about 3 weeks, everything Oct 67; BUT the block is was stamped D440 5 12 indicating May 68 assembly, no HP, and no other stampings anywhere. So I assume its a warranty replacement block with all my original pieces bolted to it. Anyone care to poke a hole in my theory?

Took some pictures of the back of the block and bellhousing I’ve got not a trace of numbers on either, did they mark any further down the side? I also got the front tab , looks like D383 also has a 9 and maybe something else below that, so what I’m asking again is could it actually be original, I’m posting all the pictures and fender tag CE341007-C118-4D8E-9657-699201DC3180.jpeg F97A7BC8-3AF6-4121-B544-0AE2059A31B7.jpeg 5FEF427B-098E-404F-8E7E-430C8FF1AC60.jpeg

It says 3 9 to match the 2416 assembly date on your first picture of the thread. It's the same date in two different formats.

As this is a four speed, you will not find the VIN numbers on the bellhousing.
