ET Trip Light Mechanism?

Last night I attended a local bracket race. There was a guy with a '40 Willys that had a piece of sheet metal hanging off of a bracket that extended at least 18" past the front of the car parallel to the track. I assume the purpose of the device is to trip the timing lights at the end of the track. It appeared he was staging with the front wheels. I'm assuming a device like that is not legal in sanctioned racing? Any rules experts here?

They are legal.
Not sure the exact specs on how far ahead of the front wheels they allowed to be.
On a heads up race, it is an advantage, but if you are bracket racing, probably not as much.
A close bracket race, a racer not knowing that is on the front of the other car may misjudge where the other car actually is.

there called beam breakers,if your front end is to high can make one to trip the beams instead of your front wheels on the top end,you can run a quicker et with it,with the starting line the beams might be 1 inch off the ground and the top end might be 8 inches off the ground,as my local track is,bracket racers look for your wheel or fender when racing.there used alot in heads end racing or index,i made a few

above is correct mainly used to make sure the finish line beam is tripped consistently in the same spot every time car is staged with the front tires and if you hit the brakes at the finish line to avoid a breakout it is very possible to for the nose to dive and and trip the beam with the front of the car and not the tires resulting in a breakout the key is break the beams starting line and finish line consistently. I don't use one but wish I had one a time or teo
