Going to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets on my 1970 426 Hemi
Regarding the exhaust manifold bolt holes in the heads
Do the exhaust manifold bolts need sealant to prevent a coolant leak like some other mopar engines?

Thanks Larry

They don't go into water. Just apply some anti-seize to the threads. What brand gaskets will you use?

My exhaust manifold bolts leaked...That is on a 400...I replaced the bolts with a stud kit made for this reason...Yes put something on them to be sure..don't want to get done and find out what i did....antifreeze on the ground...hemi may be different but I wouldn't think so..Also some people say that you don't use a gasket. Other say use one

I guess the 426 is different than all the other mopers
my 1958 392 Hemi will leak if not sealed up

My heads are '70 cast iron street hemi heads, the exhaust bolt holes didn't go into water. Since that area of the engine might see road grime, weather, moisture, and heat cycling, the anti-seize is just cheap insurance for taking them out later. It would suck to snap a bolt off in an original hemi head. I'm sure plenty of people get by without it though.

I can't recommend any gasket brand. I used a pair of cheap fel pro gaskets for mine, and was curious if you had a preferred brand.

Thanks, i did a little looking around on the web & you are correct anti-seize is the way to go

I used remflex on my 440. no leaks so far but they are easily broken when installed.
