Exhaust tip hanger

I'm trying to put on my 70'GTX exhaust tips and I don't have origional bolts for the hangers. Are the welded nut not 3/8? my 3/8 bolt goes in, but when I try to tighten it falls an couple of threads like it's not the right size. The nuts are welded securly

What is the right size bolt?

Really no one on here knows what size the bolts are that hold the exhaust tip hangers.

they are the same as the rear bumper bracket bolts. 7/16" W/ the 38 stamped on the head if I remember correctly.

Mine were pretty dirty and I thought they were 3/8 also,you need to clean them up with a tap and the 7/16 bolts will go in.
