Hey Guys,

Has any one run into problems with their fan shroud and engine torque? Like when you rev the engine and the torque of it makes the fan hit the fan shroud? I am ordering a custom made shroud and wondering if I should allow for that and how much. I know when I'm trying to tune the engine rpm it gets shaking a lot, that made me wonder if when the engine torques if the fan will hit.

Thanks!

Think I would check my motor mounts and then the clearance of my shroud with the engine off.

Yes, I was thinking I should check the motor mounts but they are brand new mighty mounts.

Was the fan hitting the shroud before the new mounts were installed?

You'll be fine... It doesn't move very far as long as the mounts are sound. I would measure the difference between a factory fan and a factory shroud and make your custom unit similar in difference.

The OP stated the fan is hitting the shroud after changing the motor mounts, if all the correct info has been given a custom shroud shouldn’t be required.

Actual example: a few years ago, I made the mistake to remove my own home-made solid mounts for new (Chinese) rubber mounts. Result: fan impaled into the factory radiator, no damage to factory shroud.

It's apparent that the new engine mounts have changed the location of the engine somewhat,
enough for the fan to now come in contact with the shroud under engine torqueing.
The engine is probably sitting a bit higher in the saddle, so to speak.

The good news is that there should be a little wiggle room in the mounts of both the radiator
and the shroud on it - and that's the simplest thing to attempt first, adjusting those to compensate.

I have a schumacher one in my 440 dart, best money spent and a easy installl if you can find one

yeah that's what I did, I figured I'd give them a try before re-installing my solid mounts. Are they still available ?

I don't have the shroud yet and it didn't have one before. Just checking before the company makes it if I should allow for it.

Since you're having a shroud made (if it's not too late) I would have it built to accommodate a larger fan, for clearance, but also for more fan options. I have a stack of old factory Chrysler and Ford fans that don't fit any of my musclecar-year shrouds without hitting. The shroud hole offset and size typically only allowed for 18" or maybe an 18.5" fan on the 60s-early 70s stuff so keep that in mind.

Most importantly, as was said above be certain the engine isn't lifting when you stab the throttle.

I personally have zero confidence in Mity-Mounts, especially for what they charge....
Mine failed on a 440 with less than 500HP, after just shy of a year of street use.
You already have them, so that's fine, but I would definitely make sure they aren't the sole means of retention. Any reinforcing you can do is a plus.
