I recently noticed that my roadrunner has 2 fender tags. One is like what one would expect. All the options,

engine, paint, seats ect. But the other one is just "P" one large letter P. I have never seen that on any car. A friend said police but that is not the code for police and also. It's a roadrunner it would have made for an interesting police car. Any Ideas.

It also looks to be the shape of a trapezoid instead of a rectangle.

Lynch road build?

Typical Lynch Road inspection tag. It simply means someone did their job, inspected something and punched the tag to say they inspected it. There is no significance to the letter.

Similar tags should be found on every LR built car for that year.

I see. good to know. The other 73 I own is from Ontario, so it wouldn't have this tag correct?

What about the strange shape?

Measure it. It is not a perfect rectangle.

I know it loooks odd.

The inspection tags come from the same stock as the fender tag.
Optical illusion. Camera angle.

Wrong. Look at how close the upper right corner is to the vertical bend of the fender apron. Now look at the upper left corner. That tag is at least 3/8" shorter on the left side. This is not a matter of perspective. A tape measure will prove it, though anyone with eyeballs should be able to tell.

Actually both tags are askew. The inspection tag more so than the fender tag. Maybe that strip of tag was messed up at one end but they decided to use it anyway. One side looks to be straight but the other well look for yourselves.

so was the lynch road plant famous for screw ups? my fender tag doesn't seem to have the "engine , trans and axle" number sequence under the build sequence number.

Not particularly.

Anything involving humans will have mistakes. I doubt either of our workplaces today are mistake free.
