Friends, I have a 440, .40 over 10 1/2 comp . RPM heads. matching intake 800cfm carb. luniti HYD roller 556. lift 550. respectfully. getting ready to fire it up, done lots of Chevy's no mopars. engine builder adjusted valves, what timing mark should I start BTDC or ATDC. dist pointed to number one??? probably a dumb questions to you that are in the know, I just don't want to screw up a 8000 dollar build. if I could get a good starting point and sequence some of you go through prior to start would be helpful. thanks and I love this site, and my 68 RR.

Depending on year, and the build...stock is 10* BTDC. That's where your initial firing point is.

NEVER ATDC.

If you have a MSD digital programmable 6AL-2, you can lock out the distributor and program the MSD for timing. Like Miller stated, BTDC around 10 degrees initial once started then adjust total time to around 38 degrees. I use 18 degrees BTDC set on the MSD billet distributor and adjust timing to around 38. You have to figure out what your engine likes; might be 36.
