Purchased a torn apart 1972 SSP which the previous owner explained the problems he had encountered with the vehicle. Original 904 transmission slipping in drive and in reverse. Ignition points frequently burning up because he kept driving the vehicle with the slipping transmission. What? Well, I had the transmission rebuilt, check. I replaced the points in the distributor, but could not get the gap adjusted. The distributor cam was so worn down it would no longer open the points. Purchased new distributor at autozone (made in Taiwan), motor problems solved. Sometimes the foot bone is connected to the funny bone!
