Have you tried Richard O'Shields, Restoration Parts and Materials? He's listed in the vendor forum.

Or, if you have, or can find an old shell of a unit, there's a few places that rebuild them.
Not cheap but it's an option.

I say drill a too small hole open it up to return line size with a tapered punch and braze in your return line.

Will it make a difference if I drill and install the fitting on the sender? So I can remove it and drill it out of the tank and avoid shavings falling inside.
