I have a 1970 Road Runner that we installed a new hurst competition shifter. It will shift normal at low speed. If I get on it go from second gets stuck going to 3rd. Transmission is new rebuild. We pulled a second time all is correct. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To clarify what you said, do you mean you can't pull out of second to go into third?

Are you getting across the gate? Did you adjust the linkage with a pin to lock it in position?

Make sure the gearshift levers are squared off, as well as the holes in the operating levers.
They wear each other out.
Mine would get stuck in second on a brand new shifter because the gearshift levers were worn, no longer squared off.

1/2 lever would put it into 2nd but not take it completely out.

Sent mine off to Brewers. New gearshift levers are not only squared as heck but deeper than originals, more closely matching the depth of the operating levers for more/better engagement.

My simple rule of thumb (may not fit every shift issue, especially a badly worn shifter) is if it hangs up between 1-2, 3-4 or reverse gates it’s an adjustment issue of the shifter neutral gate (with an alignment pin). If it slides across the gates fine but won’t go forward or backward into gear, it’s a transmission issue. If it kicks out of 3rd or 4th gear which it didn’t do before, readjust the shift stop bolts.

I waited for nearly a year to get mine, have same problem. I think it is a shifter mechanism issue as I had no issue before the change to the Hurst. I called them and not much help except to pull it and send it to them at my expense. I have adjusted it twice, gonna try one more time and then??? I did find a very informative set of videos on YouTube, Gearboxvideo. Lots of info as well as he rebuilds/fixes them. I think you will be able to narrow it down with his videos.

I had quite a few missed 3-4 shifts last year and before reassembly last week I noticed the 3-4 lever was getting loose.
I peened the hole in the shift lever for now and that tightened it up, but these things don’t last forever.
I don’t think the design is all that great.
