Going under the knife

Budnicks, yes,i'll admit it that i'm a little nervous.

rrman - my hip replacement was the first surgery (and only so far) that I ever had. Try not to worry about it and trust that your dr. and everyone else are capable and know what they're doing. It will go fine, and waking up afterward is the best feeling in the world. You know it's over and you're flying high as a kite on the meds! They really do a great job with pain management with the meds. Afterward you know that every day is going to be better than the last. You're on the road to recovery then.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THOSE PAIN MEDS. I have a fairly high pain tolerence. When i had my teeth pulled, i pulled out my own stitches and had to "work out" some splinters out of my gums. But i know the surgery is a whole other ball game.

Best of luck on your surgery RRman. I had a similar surgery in 87 on my left shoulder. Had to shorten tendons to keep from dislocating it. Back then it was pretty painfull and archaic , but with todays advancement in technology and care you'll be fine I'm sure.Might be wearing a sling for a while though.

RRMan,
You'll be fine. PT has been going good for me. It's amazing how much range of motion You loose in such a short period of time! I'll get it back but it will be months. I attached a picture of my scar. Your's will probably be two small ones not even an inch. Mine is so big because I did alot of damange and they had to open me up to put in those pins.Like I told you in my PM, I got hit head on in my Dakota pick-up and spent a good part of a year in a wheelchair with both of my legs shattered. We'll both get through this!!!! Take care.
P.S. We're almost the same age. I just turned 53 on the 17th.

that scar don't look too bad.Told the wife i was going to ask the doc if he could prescribe viagra cause we all know good blood flow is the key to faster healing.

LMAO! I wish I would have thought of that! I'll tell the old lady that it's part of my "physical therapy"

Well, i'm back. Surgery went good.Aside from the tear in my rotator cuff the doctor also had to take the muscle that goes over the cuff and reattach it where it meets the bicep(guess i tore that too).Got home about 7;30pm.Didn't get the pain meds in me soon enuf and when the blocker and anesthetsia wore off i was in one hell of a lot of pain.

Bandages come off friday and i go back to the doctor on the 10th to see how it is healing. Now i need to just relax and let everything take it's course.Strange that now i look forward to when i can dress myself like normal. My wife has been great so far,and has helped me when i ask.

Budnicks, yes,i'll admit it that i'm a little nervous.

You'll get over it soon enough, I think that is pretty routine surgery now... Best wishes, Get well soon aftwards...

good for you buddy. the most important thing now is to follow the re-hab plan and some days it is tough. there will be days that dragging your *** to physio will be a mind game to do, but if you follow the plan you will be surprised at the outcome. been there-done that.
- you are over the hump now bud. the hardest part was getting up one day and walking in the door to have it done and you did it.

Thanks shag, yea i had my doubts but when i was told afterwards about the other muscle being torn and they had to pull it down over the rotator to reattach it i'm glad i replaced my V and put on my testicles.Waiting for them to send me a chair down that will move my arm to keep everything limber. The pills they gave me make me sleep alot, but i know that helps.

oh, your still in the hospital, oops, didn't read the date and time. your fine. they will have you moving that arm real soon. have a care.

Shag,no i'm home.I went in on monday 10-01-12 @12;30 and got done with surgery about 3;30pm.On my way home about 4;30 that same day.I am recovering now at home.

Good for you roadrunnerman. They tell me it is easier now than it used to be. As hard as it will be, the therapy is going to help you. Just do what the doc's tell you and you will be good to go soon (or that's what they tell me) haha. I also have a torn rotator cuff that needs surgery, but I have not done it yet. It is my right side which is also my arm that I use. Hard as hell getting dressed among other things, like trying to use it to wipe...oh does that hurt or just putting on a belt. You are on the side of getting better so away you go. Good luck in your recovery, keep us updated.

70redbee,i had some scar tissue they had to scrap off b4 they could do the repairs. Those were from the body's natural healing, but it would'nt have healed right if i didn't get the surgery done. If you can get the surgery done sooner that would be better or maybe you need to wait for a better time(understandable). The doctor says i'll be in a sling for about 3-4 weeks.I think they are waiting till after my post-op check to see about when they will start my PT. Found out the morning of my operation that the hotel we stayed at in woodbury, mn had a hostage situation the week b4, and the week b4 that they had shooting there.Plus i guess that hotel is known for drug activity. Needless to say,it scared the hell out of my wife when she found out.But i will say that the staff at the woodbury ambulatory clinic inside allini hospital was just fantastic.
