The 318 is not the original engine.
I was thinking of rebuilding it if it was.

One plan is to build an LA 360, only a little more than rebuilding the 318.

Another option is a junkyard Magnum 360.

What years are the best buy?

From what I have read,
it has the mounts, will bolt right in.
Will bolt to my 904,
but I need info on the balance issues.

Will need an LA 360 oil pan and dipstick/tube.

If I get a block with the front serpentine and accessories, that will be a plus and ease the swap.

I am sure this is not an uncommon swap.

If there is a good link or article or someone with info please let me know.

It also looks like I could use my intake, carb, etc.
But would be good to pull engine with tthe magnum manifolds.

As an example, a quick look shows I could get a complete engine (but would not be using the FI) for well under 1000 bucks. In some cases less even with manifolds, and accessories off say an 02 Dakota or something.

Thanks for any info or links.

Mag heads have different intake bolt angles than LA. Edelbrock performer air gap is $10 more for Mag angle. Mag exhauset manifolds might be as good as headers. I love the sound of my 5.9 Dak. 318 oil pan should work on 5.9. I think the distributor might be different, but 318 might work. My Dak CC moves pretty good for 245 net HP. Bet your RR is lighter. I do have 3.91 gears though. I;m not saying these are the only issues, just some things to consider.
