Goodbye Haggerty Insurance

I dropped Hagerty on March 27th of this year. Another member from Texas suggested I try his company, collectors classics. That was the best move I ever made. My total annual cost dropped by a third. In addition, the Independent agent works and live right here in town. Plus, they allow my mileage use to be spread from one car to another. So If one gets driven more than another, the credit moves around. All agreed value, and they allow Quarterly payments, not just an annual Payment. I was with Hagerty five years, and two years ago I needed to have my Dart towed, as I heard a noise under the car, and only 50 miles on a fresh rebuild. It was a warm day at 3:00 in the afternoon. Two hours later still no truck. My son finally was able to come and babysit the car while my son-in-law gave me a ride home to get my truck and trailer.
When I got back a tow truck was sitting there, and I told him to get the HELL away from my Dart. I said I was assured of flatbed service, not a damn tow truck. I asked him what took so long, and he said nobody hauls for Hagerty because their allowance is too low. So hagerty searches for the cheapest they could find. I took the car home myself.
Then, last March 27th I was Irritated enough to shop around to consider my options. I got busy at work, and after two months I decided to renew, minus the towing. They would not pro rate the Policy. So, I said: you mean if I had a claim you would not have covered the car, but you are still charging me? She said yes, if you want our Insurance you have to pay the whole year using the same renewal date, (Mar27th) but restarted May 27th which was actually 10 months. I then decided I would not wait again, and shopped around the members here, and when I found the referred company had a local agent, I decided to change.and I am waiting for Hagerty to try and call me again so I can tell them to pound sand. The best part was the new company added to collector Motorcycles for 50 bucks a year! Full coverage, no deductibles, agreed value. All is good!
I agree with Bruzilla.

The Member was mike67. I really appreciated the tip!

I have Jc Taylor haven't had to file any claims yet though.
I've had JC taylor on various cars for twenty years or so. But I too have had no claims. They are price competitive with Haggerty.

years ago when i first insured my rr with state farm i only did photos but when i spoke with them about insuring my other cars they told me they had to physically come out & take photos which when they did the agent said they wouldn't touch my other cars since there not factory stock which they are plus lettered up . They wouldnt even do my ramp truck cause it was lettered & to much of a liability.

It all depends on who comes out to inspect your car these days and it does not matter which company. You have idiots everywhere that really don't know classics. I had a chevelle that was in an accident the claim person said we can't repair the car because it's to old. I talked to another person there and they approved the total repair on the car. You probably get less flack from the classic cover guys but even they can screw you over that is why I left both grundy and Haggerty. I have had this local agent for quite a few years and they take care of my issues.

If any of you people are using Ameriscam Collectors, Drop them like a hot potato!!! They lie BIGTIME to your face, can't send out renewals, don't give a **** about you or your policy, and they make up the rules as they go along. DROP THEM ASAP!!!

I've had good experiences with Hagerty. They were more than fair settling the claim when I gacked the front fender on the Coronet. Recently I rebuilt the front end on the Dart in my garage. The only place I trust to align it is 35 miles away. I called Hagerty, and because the car was deemed unsafe to drive, it qualified for the road-side emergency 50 mile free tow. That tow alone saved me $100.

I just added my new 70 Satty vert on to my Haggerty policy. $179/year on $25k agreed value, zero deductibles. Did it online in 5 minutes. Got my ID card in a few hours. Easy as pie. (also they pro-rated my premium for the policy year so only cost me $100 to add it).

They just emailed me again today, wanting funds from the expiration date, and agreed to cover as long as there was no claim. I said, what good is that? Plus for the pleasure they wanted a late fee. I advised them to quit contacting me,as I have better coverage elsewhere. After Five years, and $5,500 in payments. Now everything is covered for $760 a year, Including two classic Motorcycles.VS $1,080. (no Bikes)Infinity Insurance company with a local Agent.

After being with Haggerty for three years, and with my policies coming up for renewal, I decided to check with my regular insurer to see what deal I could get with them. I didn't even bother before as I assumed they wouldn't cover a 70s car, but turns out I was wrong.

I contacted Direct General, and got a hold of a youngin on the phone. I gave her the VIN and the first thing she says is "your VIN is wrong. It doesn't have enough numbers." I had to explain to her that 13 numbers was the norm before 1981, and she told me she hadn't been born yet and I told her I kinda figured that. :) Their automated system doesn't accept anything older than 1981, but she was able to do a manual entry for me. Then she said she had to go get management approval to cover the car and put me on hold.

She came back on a minute or so later and told me they would cover my car with the same terms and conditions as my newer cars, but they would use the NADA value for the car, $24,000, for value purposes, which I told her was fine by me as I think the car is worth well less than that. :)

The bottom line came out to a $28 increase to my monthly premium, but I got a decrease because I didn't need to have some additional coverages that Haggerty required me to have, so between not having to pay the Haggerty expenses I'm paying about $20/month less and only having to be concerned with one company. :)
You might want to revisit this one. Direct general is a nobody regional insurer specializing is substandard auto risks. You get what you pay for.

I have had Hagerty for going on 2 years now and had one claim after i was tboned in the passenger door . The man that hit me had full coverage but hagerty paid me within a week so i could get started fixing the car , they never questioned the estimate at all. I wont lie on an estimate cause itll bite you down the road , but i had only had insurance on the car 2 weeks when i got hit and im very happy with them . But who knows what may happen down the road and if they screw me over i will be shopping like everyone else . But for now i cant ask for better .
