OK, all. Got the lock sets from NAPA yesterday, hopefully will find the time soon to replace the lock on trunk and both door locks on my '74. Driver's side lock and trunk lock failed, so I need to get to it.

Any tips, tricks, pictures, what to do and what not to do for a relative newbie would be much appreciated. The trunk seems like it won't be too much trouble, but I'm a bit perplexed about pulling off the interior door panels and rummaging around.

Beer to drink while doing job- Check.

2 hours without the kids around reserved- Check.

Screwdriver- Check.

Expert advice from FBBO before I screw it up... would be PRICELESS.

Thanks!

Did you get the paint gaskets for the new locks? How about new clips for the rods? Now's the time to change your 40 year old plastic clips. In fact, what was it that actually failed that sent you to NAPA in the first place. I've taken my doors and locks out and found that the failure was usually a bad clip.

As for advice, I used my iPhone to take some pictures inside the door to record the locations of all the rods. Also now would be a good thine to take the locking mechanism out and soak it in cleaner and lube it up with new clean grease.

I didn't even know you could get lock sets from NAPA. Are they real mopar locks or just generic ones (I like using my pentastar keys)

They came with pentastar keys... buy I'm having them keyed for my original keys, since I have multiple sets and bought pentastar blanks off eBay.
