Mighty nice of you to take such good care of the trusting old widow.
I explained to her and him that the guns were worth more, she didn't care, she said she had 2 offers 1 was less than what she told me and the other was identical, she said she didn't want anyone else in her home, and she was nervous about having them there. BELIEVE ME, there was NO ONE HURTING FOR MONEY at that house, lol. Her husbands family had something strong to do with Dupont plastics a long time ago, and her nephew told me they have been getting a couple hundred thousand a year since the 80's from the company, plus they were worth millions in the 80's, she was no blank old women, she had her marbles, she was driving a $90K benz and has a full time employee that hangs out with her, drives, and cooks for her...
NOT sure what type of people you think would own a $50K gun collection and live in this area, not rare to pull up to an 8000 sq foot house with a pair of 75 year olds in it that havent worked since they were 50, lol.. Different kind of money up here. I am the first one that would have a problem with "ripping" off an old widow, the women knew what they were worth, and I was there and able to fulfill what she wanted done.
I even told her I was going to sell 75% of them, her exact words were "I hope you do well with them, make sure not to scratch any of the wood work on your way out" lol, I dont know if she meant the houses wood or the guns...
Everyone was happy though, I take my gun collecting as a hobby that no matter what is going to cost me a lot of money because I shoot way over $5K a year in ammo, and I reload, lol. BUT just like with the cars, when I can buy an estate or lot for short money and turn a profit I turn into more things I want, then I do, now am I out three looking in old ladies drawers for pistols their husbands may have left behind, NO, a lot of people know I am the type to come with cash right then, and they don't have to worry about me coming back in the middle of the night with a mask on, so I get a lot of leads and tips.
So you want a good story, listen to this...
Actually just got a really good lead on a house 3000 sq feet, 20 acres of land, built in 2005, the mother just passed son wants cash fast, house is worth $480K I called and asked what he wanted to do, he said, how fast can I come up with $250K. SO, I said, lets meet and talk, he told me he would meet me at the house, I went there and told him to bring all the ppw he had. I called my assistant, I had her start the background and title search, I called the town hall and the probate judge, everything checked out good. I met with him he explained he was an only child everything is his, there are no bills, his mother never gave him anything his entire life he struggled, and now they just left him 3 other properties in Florida, he is not spending another minute more than he has to in new england especially in the winter!!! PROBLEM WAS, the cash she left is enough to pay off the lenders that did exist plus a small bit, which had to be done because he didnt have the credit to move any loans to his name!!!
I already knew all of this from the probate judge who is a friend of mine. I told him, "look, I will give you $200K cash, but $50K right now, and I need a solid 2 weeks to close on something like this, because of probate"... HE stuck out both hands in a gesture I never seen, one to shake mine and the other open for the money, lol...
Thats why I havent really posted on here today, I was dealing with that, but we actually look to close on Monday the 26th!!! HERE IS THE BEST PART, not only did I buy the house for almost $300K under what I can sell it for by the end of the year, IT COMES FULL OF GORGEOUS FURNITURE, he wants nothing, he wouldn't even walk in to see what is there, I have a security guard parked their right now, making sure no one enters (she had some shoddy employees that felt they were owed money and he was worried about coming in to rob the house, I left a note with the security company to give anyone that comes by, saying to contact me if they were owed anything, I will just take care of that stuff, this kid is way too petty, lol)...
I walked around the house and it is pristine, just perfect, I am meeting a company I donate all kinds of furniture and clothing to tomorrow and I have to setup payment for Monday of the balance (just moving that money into an account I can draw a check out of, can't do it online any more, thanks fcc, lol).. I miss this stuff, although I used to tell my wife "I bought a house today" and she would be like "wow, where, that was fast" and now I tell her we are closing on a property with a 65% profit potential and she says "great, can you check the cabinet for stewed tomatoes, I want to make baked mac and cheese tonight", the **** is that?.... I want to go have a steak and whiskey, I closed a deal today that didnt exist yesterday, dammit...
ANYWAY- Hey Bru, is that a low number p38? 44' would have bakalite grips I believe, I know a gentleman looking for a low number specimen, I am not sure how low but I would think under 4000? I have few of them, I more like the ppk's from that era and have a drawer full of nazi marked walthers...
That was a deal on the italian guy in .40, I am noticing 357 sig, 40, 45acp's are much better property that the rest of the bunch as of late...
As far sw revolvers, they are my absolute favorite, I know people talk about the snakes, BUT to me saw was always on top, I had a cracked grip on a 22mag ( the lite frame that holds 8, awesome little spinner), sent them a picture of it and they sent me a new set of grips, no questions asked, lifetime warranty is for real with them... I had a worn out revolver 357, just base cop gun, was missing the center every few shots, so I sent it in, they called me and said "shes pretty well worn, we can get her running but for another $99 we can do a trigger job, rebarrel, new grips, recoat, and you will get her back NEW, I was like **** yah, how much for an unmilled stainless cylinder (I like how they look smooth), he just laughed, I got my gun back with a smooth silver cylinder!!!! Now that is service...
One of my favorite guns to shoot is a sw revolver, everytime I go to the range to shoot target pistol, I bring these 2 guys, the 1911 is a custom built les baer (older one, actually built by the man himself), I shoot lead wad cutters with that guy, its about the most accurate pistol you will ever shoot, I have a sig p210 that is also super accurate, but I enjoy shooting this more. The revolver is just a simple sw 357 8 shot, comes looking just like that off the shelf as a pc gun, I sent it back for a tiny bit of work, and the gun outcshoots other revolvers I have that were custom built by legends!!!! I shoot lead out of both these guns, and they NEVER have issues, ever...
