Has the car market gone to far? Or have I lost perspective

Someone swapped a srt4 motor into one of those babies. I forget where I seen that.

I thought it was a good idea and gave me the idea to do an 80's minivan with the srt4 motor but it needs 4 pedals :). Likely never happen

That's a nucken' futs price even 'in the bizarro world' for a GLHS
or any fwd later 70's or 80's squared-off torque steering shitboxes
even if turbo'd with Carrol Shelby's name on it or not

(sorry to the GLH guys, not meant as an insult, just reality on values)

some of the market is crazy
asking prices can be crazy
especially on rusted hulls, incomplete cars

auction prices can't be used to judge any std or price either

some people have more $$ than sense

some just get into a pissing contest too

move on if it's not in your budget range

------------------------------------------------------

now the 68-70 Charger Market is unreal, or the 70-71 E-body
& nothing you can do about it,
unless you buy some spaghetti strainer rusted hull, money pit
& have the skills & funds to do a $70k+ resto
get a tetanus shot & have a fat wallet

It's a crazy world we're living in right now. Buying a done car is the key way to go but, done differs from person to person. If you want to see how crazy things are look at what Jeep Grand Wagoneers are bringing these days amongst other things. Lots of automobiles have had a huge increase. I was shocked at the early Bronco prices which also makes me sad. Before the turn of the century I had a chance to buy I believe it was an okay running/driving 72-73 Bronco 302 for $4,000.

People are crazy for 80's models,, one guy offer my grandpa 10 k for a 1985 4 door Dart k, here in Mexic Go figure.
I would love to go back and pick up a Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico .....nearly bought one in England back in 1992, but at $2,000 it was out of reach at the time......now they fetch up to $100K in top order. 1970's car - very popular down these parts.

The only thing a K-car can do for me is, take me to a real car. The only thing a K-car with a 2.2 turbo can do is, take me there a little faster before it breaks. They should have come with a glove box full of head gaskets.

Ironically that car was never sold here in Mexico

My sentiment exactly, those cars were build to fail IMO,, nothing in particular obout a k car even less a 4 door Dart, those about 40yo and up know that, I don't know vwhy the millennials consider this type of cars "hype " or " cool" pos IMHO.

.....although the K/L/G platform did "save" Chrysler.

While I agree with the premise of your post, I believe I'd rather WALK to a real car.

Remind me of an 85 Shelby Charger turbo that I had. I remember the car was easy to work on. Which was good, because it always needed worked on.

I bought a 1987 Shelby Lancer 5-speed new and after a few years, parts started breaking. Now, 35 years later, good luck finding needed replacement parts for those low production Shelby cars.

Well, they were what they were at the time. My grandfather bought I believe it was either new or a year old 1989 Dodge Aries K America. I believe he paid somewhere around $8k for it. They were cheap cars when new and they got their money's worth out of the K-platform which lasted I believe until 1995.

Good lucking finding them even for sale period. Just for grins and giggles I looked to see how many K-Cars I could find searching the internet. Couldn't find but, a handful for sale and even they were pretty thrashed. A few years ago, I did find a low mileage Aries Wagon in Canada with low miles. It sold for $6k because of it was 30-35k (IIRC) and minty fresh. For something to tote around on the weekends it would be okay I guess if you could address the common issues or mitigate them.

I guess I should add to this post that my grandfather had two K cars. The first one was a 1981 Plymouth Reliant with the famed "2.6 Hemi" and that one he did buy new. Never game much trouble from what I remember and sold it at 150k miles and 11-12 years later. The second was the 1989 Aries he bought. Funny story, I took my driver's test in that Aries and passed. Easier to parallel park than a 1987 Dakota long bed with the steering radius of a school bus lol.

Not too many 1980's cars could turn a 13 second 1/4 mile like the GLH/GLHS turbo cars.

You can put any asking price on a car. Whether you get close to said price is a whole different matter.
Yeah but what do you do when everybody has that car price the same way?

For example look at 6869 chargers they’re all over 50 now…

e bodies ?
B bodies shot up too

How in heck did K cars get into the picture?
When I was married we had an 80 Omni with the bastardized Chrysler/VW 1.7 engine. It was a pretty good car. I had a black/gold 81 Charger 2.2 auto with the factory aluminium wheels and 195/60-15 tires. It was anemic but handled like a go-cart. Never had to do much to it.
As for K cars, Dad had a few. Most with 2.2 carb/TBI. The last was a 92 Spirit 2.5 TBI. That one needed a head gasket at about 75 k. Updated gaskets fixed that problem. That was also a solid car.
