Heater box, do I dare chance?

Placed some of the ducting under the dash. Was rather taxing. I didn't remove the ducting. The previous owner did, so it was trial and error. Got it in though.
Did a few things on the other side of the firewall as well.

Placed the grommets and hoses to the AC/Heating system.

Have a few questions.View attachment 402574That yellow Grommet in the center of the picture has 2 small holes in it. But there's only one vacumn line. Is the 2nd hole for the thermocouple (if that's what the thin, hollow copper tube going to front of heater box is)?
Or does the thermocouple stay inside the car, and the 2nd hole is for some thing else?

I have no idea, mine does not have the second hole and my grommet has the hose perfectly centered....

What do you think went through there? There is a sensor line that goes from the sensor in the heater box to the missing temperature valve that is to the left of the grommet in the firewall. It is a little feature of the system that does not need to be there and the only way to make it work again is buy a NOS value with the sensor and capillary tube ($450....)

Does your system have the expansion value that screws to the evaporator fitting right out of the firewall and has a feed line that screws into the AC hose then a capillary tube that has a insertion hole (not into the refrigerant) that has a rubber plug into the other hose?

Here is a high resolution photo of mine, if you zoom in you can see most of it.

It's very possible that the Grommet is from a different car. I bought it as a roller. The guy I bought the car from has several 68-70 B-Bodies. ITs plausible that this grommet camemail from a Charger. Maybe the other hole is for a vacumn for the hidable headlights. I will just remove it a use some clear silicone to plug the other hole.

You also answered a future question. The hole to the left of the grommet. That copper capillary goes to from the front of heater box to the missing temperature sensor. (I saw that in your thread, wasn't sure about it.)
Will my AC unit work without that sensor?

I'm not sure if mine had the expansion valve. I got this vehicle in several pieces, without photographs. Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle without a reference photo.
It may well have had the valve, but the car didn't have it when I loaded it on the hauler and brought it home last year.

I'm not sure which upgrade kit to go with. Apparently there is an early and a late 1970 option when choosing an aftermarket upgrade from CI. I'm guessing my car is a late 1970 because the fender tag says it was born in 10/69.

That was a feature that in my opinion only had value in giving the salesman something to talk about. It is a feed back system that if the sensor in the box was sensing cool (i.e. the car was not warmed up yet) it would drive the temperature value just a little bit more to the HOT direction than the temperature cable was set to. As the sensor warmed it would release and go back to where the cable had the value set. When mine was rebuilt he locks down that part of the adjustment so only the cable can move the valve. Like I said it seems about useless other than a bragging feature for the sales team.

SO it will operate just fine if I leave the capillary in the interior and fabricate myself a nice looking cover plate and make my car a temperature sensor delete model?

Work just fine since it barely did anything noticeable to start with!
